Operations Supervisor

The following responsibilities are general duties that a particular employee in this position may or may not be required to perform. The actual duties required of this position will vary.





- Provides direct supervision of employees performing waste collection/disposal, dispatch and/or other operations-related work. Supervision includes hiring, scheduling, performance management and other related issues.

- Resolves unusual or nonscheduled service requests, equipment breakdowns, and schedule changes.

- Develops work schedules to match staffing levels, makes work assignments and monitors progress to improve work process efficiency. Plans routes to provide the most efficient service to customers while also managing labor hours and disposal tons.

- Performs administrative activities, including reviewing and processing route sheets, time sheets or other work time documents.

- Conducts employee observations to ensure safety and productivity procedures are being followed.

- Documents and discusses results with employees.

- Responds to driver reports of problem pick ups such as unsafe conditions or hazardous waste.

- Provides status reports to next level management, and substantiates payroll, customer billing, and business plans.

- Coordinates with other departments and customers to change or improve customer service.

- Responds effectively and courteously to customer service inquiries, requests or complaints. Understands, implements, and maintains safe work practices.

- Investigates accidents, injuries or property damage claims.

- On occasion, to maintain business operations, may drive route vehicles in order to cover shortages in staff or missed pick-ups.

- Performs other job-related



Technical requirements :

Required:



- Equivalent of high school diploma or G.E.D. certification and two years related operations experience.

- One year supervisory or lead experience.

- Class A or B CDL may be required.



Preferred:



- Previous experience as a commercial (CDL) driver.

- Waste industry experience.

Candidates should have some experinence with :

- Knowledge of DOT, OSHA and other related state and federal regulations.

- Communication – Provides route supervisors, collection crews, supervisors and co-workers with the information they need. Conveys information in a timely and accurate manner.

- Customer Service – Within reason, does what it takes to meet expectations of customers. Acts in a professional, courteous and cooperative manner towards customers and co-workers.

- Ethics – Adheres to the policies and rules set forth. Does not allow himself/herself or customers to bend the rules or cut corners. Is trustworthy and honest.

- Planning – Develops schedules that make efficient use of employee time and resources. Foresees equipment and scheduling problems and works proactively to prevent them. Organizes people and resources to complete all collection responsibilities.

- Problem Solving – Analyzes information. Develops a range of possible solutions, then picks the best one. Figures out how to prevent the problem from reoccurring.

- Record Keeping – Keeps records regarding the status of equipment, personnel, schedules, and problems.

- Results Orientation – Drives self and employees to achieve productivity goals.

- Safety Orientation – Follows and promotes company safety rules and procedures. Requires customers, collection crews and coworkers to follow safety precautions.

- Supervising Others – Sets clear and challenging goals for the collection crews. Addresses performance problems as needed. Builds positive working relationships with his/her employees.
