Environmental Compliance Auditor

Synagro manages the biosolids generated by publicly and privately owned treatment works, industrial generators such as pulp/paper, food processing and textile mills.  Among the many services we provide our customers are land application, dredging, dewatering, transportation, lime stabilization, incineration, drying, composting and product marketing.

 

We are currently seeking an Environmental Compliance Auditor in our satellite corporate office located in Baltimore, MD.  This position will report directly to the Environmental Compliance Director.

 

The Environmental Compliance Auditor responsibilities include but are not limited to:

 Conduct environmental compliance inspections and audits of land application operations and residual processing facilities and evaluate compliance with Federal, State, and Local regulations and permits, and Company policies and procedures.Document compliance issues and work with the regions and facilities to implement corrective actions and prevention programs.  Track completion of corrective actions and implementation of prevention programs.Assist the Environmental Compliance Director in the maintenance and updating of Synagro’s Residuals Management System (RMS) including set up of new projects, preparing land application report specifications and testing programmed reports, and QA/QC of annual reports.Keep current on Federal, State and Local compliance requirements and work with the Environmental Compliance Director to keep Company Pre-Operating Checklists and Technical Services Standard Operating Procedures up to date.Assist the Environmental Compliance Director with review of existing compliance task listings and implementation of listings where needed.Maintain Companywide Notice of Violation listing for evaluating compliance needs, and providing information for insurance purposes and project bidding.Assist the Environmental Compliance Director with compliance and RMS training for Synagro staff.Review of incoming trade journals/publications and routing of relevant articles to Synagro staff and the Technical Services Library.

Skills and Abilities:

 Ability to travel frequently to Synagro regional offices and project locations throughout the United States Minimum 1-2 years experience in residuals management or compliance/auditing fieldMust have the ability work with databases including providing specifications to Synagro’s IT staff for programming land application reports for regulatory agencies and clients and testing programmed reports.Must possess strong organizational skills and exhibit great attention to detailMust have excellent written and oral communication skills Must have strong reading and interpretation skills Must have Word and Excel experience/knowledgeAbility to work independently with limited supervisionWilling to work extended hours when necessary
