VP Design Job Description
Will manage a team of 9 people
· Sets overall creative direction for Trend, Art and Design
· Responsible for managing and providing direction to Graphic and Design departments
· Provide leadership, advocate for Designers and manage Design workload
· Provide design direction for Sales (collaborate with and accept input from Sales, but Design owns design direction)
· Peer to Sales Leadership
· Fully responsible for managing staff in all aspects of entire product design process to include market research, mood board creation, designing, sketching, "specing" and fit
· Selects, trains, motivates and evaluates staff, responsible for employee development and retention
· In conjunction with Sales management, responsible for visualizing and determining strategic direction of business; accountable for process improvement, growing business and seeking opportunities to positively affect division/company
· Fully responsible for ensuring that product is consistent with market trends as well as business strategy; interprets international/domestic concepts and fashion trends as it relates to market demands, company image and business strategy
· Provides overall recommendations and sets tone regarding style and fit of product(s) during presentation
· Ensure consistency of quality and fit across different businesses by working with cross-functional team members
· Demonstrates working knowledge of all categories/merchandise divisions, in order to evaluate line and make recommendations to better serve the customer and business needs before presentation to Sales team
· In conjunction with Sales counterpart, responsible for visualizing and determining strategic direction of business; accountable for growing business and seeking opportunities to positively affect division/company
· Responsible for ensuring that product is consistent with market trends as well as business strategy and consumer insight
· Ensures that Sales maintain integrity of line and product
· Identifies opportunities to expand and extend businesses
· Effective analysis and interpretation of business results, competitive analyses and consumer research
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS ARE:
In-depth knowledge of design techniques and processesExcellent leadership/management skillsAbility to set overall creative tone and lead creative design process/partners well with other functions.Excellent sense of style and colorProven excellent presentation and negotiation skillsAbility to deal with managerial issuesCollege degree in Fashion Design or related field.Minimum of ten years design experience including two years of managerial experience
