Injury Prevention Specialist

Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.

 

Under general direction of the Director, EH&S, the Injury Prevention Specialist (IPS) will plan, develop, and implement injury illness prevention and near-hit/incident/accident investigation programs for the UCSC Campus. 

 

As a member of the campus Environmental Health and Safety department and in collaboration with Risk Services, the IPS will help coordinate and implement campus safety programs with an emphasis on high risk departments.

 

The IPS investigates every reported injury or incident in assigned departments, organizes and leads health & safety committees, conducts safety inspections, performs job hazard analysis and assists in developing and presenting safety training programs.

 

Selected candidate is directly responsible for their own personal safety, knowing and complying with applicable policies, procedures and work rules, and promptly reporting acute or incipient injuries should they occur. As applicable, directly responsible for managing safety performance of direct report subordinates.

 

ˇ  A technical degree in a relevant scientific or engineering field such as safety engineering, safety management, industrial hygiene, environmental science, or an equivalent combination of education and experience in a related environmental/occupational health or scientific discipline

 

ˇ  Minimum of 2 years experience working with diverse groups to implement comprehensive safety and injury prevention programs

 

ˇ  Strong working knowledge of the principles and practices of an occupational safety and health program, ergonomics and/or risk management

 

ˇ  Working knowledge of federal and state regulatory requirements and adopted codes pertaining to occupational safety and health

 

ˇ  Excellent oral and written communication skills with strong interpersonal skills for effective presentations to diverse groups from various professional backgrounds
