Position Description:

Chevron North America Exploration and Production is accepting online applications for the position of Development Geologist/Geophysicist, located in Midland, Houston, New Orleans, Lafayette, and Bakersfield through Dec 31, 2006.

Chevron ranks as the largest producer of oil and gas on the Gulf of Mexico Shelf and in California. The company is the second-largest producer in the Mid-Continent's Permian Basin and third-largest natural gas producer in the U.S. We are active in exploration and production across North America, particularly in California, Texas, the Gulf of Mexico and Canada.

Geologists and Geophysicists within Chevron are part of multi-disciplinary teams which vary in make-up but can include reservoir engineering, production engineering, simulation engineering, facility engineering, and / or well engineering operations functions. These positions will provide technical geological and / or geophysical support and risk assessment for prospect generation, reserves recovery and / or major capital projects.

Qualifications:

Specialized technical criteria will include some but not all of the following based on specifics for a given job:

Geologic Skills: Successful geology candidates must be familiar with development geology work processes and have the ability to integrate seismic, well, and production data to evaluate reservoirs. Reservoir Management skills such as reservoir mapping, modeling and characterization must be demonstrated. The successful candidate also needs to be adept at volumetric, reserve and risk assessments. Formation evaluation and planning for and managing reservoir surveillance programs or new well, sidetrack and workover planning could also be expected job functions.

Geophysical Skills: Successful geophysical candidates must be familiar with geophysical tools (velocity, amplitudes, AVO modeling, rock physics, seismic processing, etc.) to assist earth scientists and engineers in prospect generation and reserves recovery. The candidate must keep abreast of new and emerging technologies, maintain close ties with geophysical vendors and intra-company technology networks and leverage when appropriate.

Interpersonal and Teamwork Skills: Proven ability to work with in a cross-functional team to perform detailed subsurface assessments, reservoir management plans, and development proposals.

Hardware/Software & Workstation Skills: Working knowledge of interpretation, modeling and other software depending on assignment. Or, able to rapidly learn and develop high level of proficiency in critical areas.

Experience in exploration, secondary, tertiary, and/or major capital projects: Understanding of the key process comprising the upstream value chain including leasing, prospect generation and maturation, exploratory drilling, delineation, and production processes.

Business Focus: Keenly aware of business drivers. Performs reservoir risk assessments and assists with decision and economic analysis. General knowledge of project management concepts.

Communication: Solid verbal, written and oral presentation skills, ability to develop effective presentations to support recommendations are required

Master's Degree in Geology or Geophysics is required.
