This position is responsible for the attainment of the company's sales goals for International Sales and New Market (non-school) sales of designated products produced by Pearson Digital Learning. The role focuses primarily on meeting goals and objectives to sustain the near-term growth of the company, but it also contributes to the organization's overall vision and strategic plans for future success and growth. Domestically, this position had two primary responsibilities which include 1) government relations associated with identifying and securing earmark funding from the Federal government and 2) business and revenue development with organizations that would sell PDL products in new venues outside the traditional school market. On an international level, this position would work with existing distributors, potential new distributors, as well as Pearson International partners. Other characteristics and responsibilities of the position are as follows:
80%: Develop and implement business strategies and activities that lead to attainment of annual target goals by:
- Optimally deploying available resources and staff to achieve top line sales goals by product
- Analyzing and identifying non-school target markets that provide opportunity for PDL products and solutions to generate incremental revenue. Develop strategies to reach these markets either directly or indirectly.
- Coordinate Federal earmark funding initiatives annually with PDL sales force. Target customers with a process to obtain congressional funding for PDL solutions at targeted school districts
- Direct activities with PDL distributors that prepare them to sell and service PDL products with a focus on market expansion. Identify new potential distribution candidates assessing their ability to represent PDL products and provide ongoing service to customers.
- Establishing target market sales plans, including annual revenue goals and expense budgets
- Ensuring the thoughtful and responsible use of company resources such that expense policies and budgets are kept
- Accurately forecasting target market sales performance by product on a quarterly and annual basis; managing the accurate forecasting sales
- Continually evaluating the organization and its strategies and responding proactively to changing opportunities and challenges of the marketplace
- Building relationships with key education decision makers and customer accounts in the target markets.
20%: Participates as a member of the PDL Executive Leadership Committee by:
- Interacting with other department heads and contributing to critical corporate decisions and strategic initiatives
- Representing the non-school and International sales organization on product steering committees and cross-departmental projects
- Recognizing opportunities for improving business performance and increasing customer success; recommending and implementing corrective action as needed
- Working with sales and product leadership to exploit business development opportunities and partnerships that open new markets and extend the PDL footprint
- Serving as a PDL executive representative at key internal (Pearson) meetings and external association events
Heavy travel required (domestic & international)
This position reports directly to the Sr. VP Sales & Marketing
Related Work Experience
Successful senior level international sales experience
Strong understanding of multi-layer channel sales process
Knowledge of the school market
Software sales experience
Bi-lingual or multi-lingual presents an advantage
Formal education or equivalent: Bachelor's Degree or equivalent relevant experience preferred.
Formal training in sales and sales management training presents a strong advantage
Skills: Thorough knowledge and practical experience in new market strategies, including international market development. Understanding of cultural dynamics integral to international
Business activities. Multiple languages preferred.
Excellent communication and presentation skills (written and verbal), organizational planning, business sense and finance/budgeting experience, highly-developed interpersonal and people management/development skills, deep understanding of Ed-Tech Industry, and high degree of comfort using technology, including productivity tools (i.e. MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Sales Force Automation software, etc.).
