Position Summary
Independently develop and flawlessly commercialize upgrades and breakthrough new Hand & Body products that meet agreed upon action standards for safety, efficacy, aesthetics, stability, consumer performance, and conformation to appropriate laws and regulations, for global application. Ensure creation of exploratory products and concepts and bring them to a level of commercial preparedness so that they may be considered by the business. Interact with non-Development functions and represent Development, where appropriate, on programs for which you are responsible.
Position Responsibilities (Expected Work)
1) Formulation development for both new launches and exploratory programs, ensuring physical and active stability, preservation, efficacy, consumer appeal, processability, cost effectiveness, product / package compatibility. Ensure formula complies with internal Unilever safety guidelines as well as external laws and regulations. Transition formula to pilot plant and track through commercialization
2) Self directed focus towards development of breakthrough new products that exceed consumer expectations, create new usage events for consumers, and maintain exclusivity for Unilever via licensing or patenting.
3) Maintain status as technical expert in various areas relating to product development and provide significant and relevant input to the business and colleagues to ensure state of the art technical development.
4) Maintain effective and timely communication of project status with both management and Brand. Ensure coordination of support group efforts to meet project timelines.
5) Maintain awareness of competitive arena and identify significant threats through detailed technical analysis.
6) Ensure integration of cross functional project work within the GTC and with the appropriate RTCs and Brand team.
Challenges
1) Understand and create consumer appeal in formulation within cost constraints.
2) Multi-task management and ensure delivery of actions against aggressive timetables
3) Interface and extract support from multiple groups (e.g. Brand, Supply Chain, Research, Analytical, Process, Micro, etc…)
4) Maintain flexibility with respect to project directions
5) Effectively manage information flow with both senior management and Brand, to ensure strategic direction of program is consistent across organization.
6) Coordinate and interact effectively with global and regional teams for flawless project execution and delivery.

Must be able to operate with minimal guidance within the commercialization system (e.g. product roll-out)
Skills & Competencies
Education Minimum BS Chemistry, Chem. Engineering, Pharmacy, or related scientific fields
Experience 2+ years direct product development, specifically formulation development. Emulsion science background or experience a plus.
