Research Scientist V / Team Lead – Infrared (IR) Tracking Systems

A Research Scientist V / Team Lead at Numerica provides leadership for a small team of engineers, scientists, and computer software engineers and performs research in developing image processing and tracking solutions from IR sensor data. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

A successful candidate will have required knowledge in multiple target tracking systems for IR applications and in signal and image processing of data from non-imaging and imaging infrared and visible wavelength systems.  Experience in the areas of modeling of target phenomenology, atmospheric and background scene effects in IR systems, and IR detector characteristics is helpful, but not required.

 

The successful candidate will lead a small team for production and product development programs, involving department or cross-functional teams focused on the delivery of a product or computer-based system through the design and production process, and into a finished state for external customers.  In addition, team leads at Numerica work with the company’s senior management to perform the following project duties:

·  Plan and direct project resource schedules and budgets. 

·  Monitor the product/program/project from initiation through delivery, interfacing with customer on production/technical matters. 

·  Organize interdepartmental activities ensuring completion of the product/program/project on schedule and within budget constraints. 

·  Assign and monitor work of systems analysis and program staff, providing technical support and direction. 

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

The minimum education requirement for this position is a PhD with two years of experience or Master’s degree with five years experience in Optical or Electrical Engineering.  A successful candidate should have prior experience either multiple target tracking for passive electro-optical sensor systems or signal and image processing of data from non-imaging and imaging infrared and visible wavelength systems.  Experience with space or air platforms is desired.

 COMMUNICATION SKILLS

Because the working environment at Numerica is highly collaborative, a successful candidate must have effective written and verbal communication skills with ability to clearly communicate technical and programmatic details with colleagues and customers.

 

SECURITY REQUIREMENTS

Because of the nature of the work contemplated in this position description, all applicants must be capable of obtaining a US Security Clearance.  At a minimum, this requires you to be a US citizen and have a background such that a sufficient level of trustworthiness can be established (e.g. clean criminal history, reasonable credit, no use of illegal drugs, etc).
