Postdoctoral Researcher: Stochastic Reaction Networks

Sandia National Laboratories in Livermore, CA

Sandia National Laboratories is the nation’s premier science and engineering lab for national security and technology innovation. We are a world-class team of staff members, technologists, postdocs, and visiting researchers. We focus on cutting-edge technology ranging from homeland defense, global security, biotechnology, and environmental preservation, to energy and combustion research, computer security, and nuclear defense. Whether it’s writing software for the world’s fastest computers, leading a national initiative in nanotechnology, or developing intelligent microsystems, Sandians are leading the way—and they are doing it with tools and facilities that rank among the world’s best. To learn more, visit www.sandia.gov.

The Biological and Energy Sciences Center is seeking a self-motivated candidate to perform research in the area of numerical simulation and analysis of stochastic dynamical systems, with a specific emphasis on stochastic reaction networks representing physical systems that are driven by jump Markov processes. The work involves developing numerical methods, algorithms, and software to analyze the dynamics and predictability of relevant systems such as gene regulatory networks, cell signaling networks, and surface catalytic reaction. We are a multidisciplinary center with programs in a wide range of fields such as biosystems, combustion science, reacting flows, and microfluidics. This center encompasses state-of-the-art experimental and computational facilities for both fundamental and applied research.

Qualified candidates will possess a Ph.D. degree in the physical/mathematical sciences or engineering, such as applied mathematics, physics, chemistry, mechanical or chemical engineering, or related fields. Candidates will possess research expertise in numerical methods, probabilistic methods, computational science, and software development. They will have the ability to autonomously carry a research project forward from concept to implementation and application, along with excellent collaboration and communication skills. The ideal candidate will also have expertise in one or more of the following areas: stochastic systems, biosystems, polynomial chaos, dynamical analysis, spectral methods, uncertainty quantification, sensitivity analysis, computational singular perturbation, large scale simulation of reaction or signaling networks, and high performance computing.

The annual salary for this position is $72,100.

This position is at the California site of Sandia, located in Livermore - a bustling northern California city set in the picturesque tri-valley wine country.
