As the Director, Advanced Technology Development, innovation will be your game plan.  Seeking a forward-thinking individual to lead a multi-disciplined team of engineers in new product research. Your product lines will primarily be automated cutting systems and wide-format inkjet plotters. Your goal will be to pioneer products for the industries we service, ensuring that we are taking advantage of emerging technologies.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 Participates in the Gerber Advanced Technology Council to an effort to leverage internal knowledge and best practices between Gerber business units, and provides overall management of the Advanced Technology Group at the Gerber Technology business unit.Supervision, coordination and review the work of a small staff of engineers; staff development and mentoring high caliber talent.Conducts simulated models and prototyping efforts in order to ensure feasibility of the technology.Carries out complex technical assignments in the development of new or refined systems, materials, processes, and products.Provides technical advice and act as staff advisor on projects/ programs as necessary.Proposes technologies and concepts to satisfy long-term market and product needs. Develops and maintains technology roadmaps, ensuring the technology roadmaps are aligned with product roadmaps.Participates in strategic planning; understanding markets and competitive products; identifying those willing to invest in research; assisting in the acquisition of research funding.Serves as an influential resource to Gerber and its customers and for identifying research and new product development opportunities. 

 REQUIREMENTS:

 

Our ideal candidate will have a PhD in materials, mechanical or electrical engineering, coupled with at least 10 years experience in new product research and development. Electro-mechanical design will be the focus of this position, but a strong understanding of software development tools and procedures are also preferred.  Must have experience writing proposals and statements of work, and any experience with grant writing is strongly preferred. Strong business acumen is required for success.

 

This position requires a person with proven innovation and technology leadership skills in a business setting. Must be self-motivated, organized, team oriented and has a strong commitment to deliver results. Must be able to work in a cross-functional team environment, gaining trust and confidence of Senior Management, leading a department to achieve results, and identifying / mentoring high caliber talent. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required for success.
