Purchasing Director

This highly visible position is instrumental in the creation and implementation of a purchasing function for a leading direct marketing company. Responsible for managing central purchasing activities and assisting local/expert buyers in vendor management by providing them with tools and techniques for vendor scoring, RFP/RFI's, contracts, cost reductions and vendor analyses.

 

- Lead efforts in developing a purchasing function/department and help drive the overall purchasing strategy for the company
- Develop and communicate company wide purchasing policy and procedures
- Implement a purchasing card strategy for the company
- Assist in implementing a company-wide Purchase Order (PO) process and the supporting system
- Develop a vendor scoring program that incorporates standard metrics and reports to evaluate vendor performance related to quality, service of supply, cost, IT and administration including problem solving, communication and attitude
- Provide assistance to the business and local buyers related to standard contract clauses, contract compliance, negotiations, and master service agreements
- Develop a standard methodology for conducting RFP's/RFI's and statements of work
- Work closely with business units and project teams when implementing new processes, procedures and/or suppliers.
- Create mechanism for customer satisfaction feedback and integrate into performance metrics.
- Work with all buyers to reduce overall payments made to vendors
- Act as a liaison between legal and the business
- Align sourcing strategies and methods to satisfy company's regulatory responsibilities, i.e. Sarbanes-Oxley compliance.
- Support individual project assignments as required by Vice President of Operations

 

· Bachelors Degree

· 10-15 years experience in the purchasing field. Vendor management and purchasing certifications are a plus.

· Must have experience in the creation and implementation of a purchasing function.

· Must be self motivated/self directed and have excellent written and verbal communication skills.

· Must have a solid understanding of contract development and in providing contract measurement addendums such as service level agreements and statements of work.

· Candidate must have good negotiation skills and the ability to analyze financial terms and performance metrics.

· Must be familiar with sourcing practices and have a solid foundation in vendor relationship management.
