Commodity Manager

      Primary Objective of Position (General Statement):

Under minimal direction, plan, develop, and implement activities associated with the sourcing of materials and services.  Negotiation of pricing and supplier relations building to achieve continuous improvement of the supply chain.

 

Essential Job Functions:

 

1.  Lead in the preparation and implementation of supply strategies that include cost reduction plans, cost containment initiatives and supply base optimization.

 

2.  Develop a superior working knowledge of assigned commodities and associated market conditions.

3. Communicate activities effectively with suppliers, internal customers, corporate partners and others in the associated with MMI Materials group.

 

4.  Initiate, plan and lead commodity team projects on a divisional, group and/or EMR wide basis.  Delegate assignments to project team members and drive actions to meet expectations for completion.

 

5. Understand and support cost systems (inflation model, budget, and make/buy decisions).

 

6.  Using CIP? and other tools identify and implement improvements in processes and procedures.

 

7.  Lead the negotiation and implementation of major agreements with key suppliers within assigned commodities.

 

8.  Lead in the formulation and implementation of tactics for assigned commodities.

 

9.  Lead the SPI process, Supplier Report Card and CIP tools to coordinate and execute supply base improvements.  Manage supply chain performance through KPI statistics.

 

10. Benchmark world-class performance and develop, initiate and implement plans for improving the supply chain performance.  Analyze and manage risk for key suppliers for key commodities.

 

11. Determine the nature, scope and viability of potential projects related to sourcing, make/buy, technology search, redesign and the development of new sources.

 

12. Champion DFM between suppliers and designers for new and existing products.  Lead value analysis and evaluation of cost drivers.

 

13.  Actively participate on New Product Development teams.  Support design changes and assist with implementation of new products.

 

Requirements:

The sucessful candidate must have:

- In depth knowledge of forging plastic moldings, machined parts, castings and / or metal stampings. 

- Strong negotiation, supplier development and global sourcing skills preferred

- Willingness to learn and advance within our company

- Strong interpersonal skills, communication with vendors

- Strategic planning experience

- Technical background preferred-  BSME, BSIE, Material EE metallurgical mechanical components

- Position open due to growth

 

Commodities: meters application gas & oil metals-

Reports to: Senior Commodity Manager

Systems:Oracle

Spend $10MM

Travel: 30-40% to Europe, Asia &  Mexico

Qualifications:

Computer literacy (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) required.

Experience:

2-5 years of strategic supply management experience.  Record of successful performance of responsibilities outlined above. 

Education:

Graduate Degree in applicable field of study preferred.
