BASIC PURPOSE:  Optimize the use of company assets in the acquisition of assigned goods and services.  Become knowledgeable about market conditions and trends, formulating short- and long-term strategies to ensure quality and continuity of supply while minimizing total cost. 

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITY AREAS:

 
Receive shop and customer service requisitions; analyze for quantity, specifications, and delivery requirements. Develop sources, request pricing and delivery; select supplier and place purchase order, reporting ship directs to customer service when appropriate.
Develop alternate sources, ensuring continuity of supply, consistency of quality, and competitive pricing; being aware of non-pricing considerations.
Consolidate requirements and develop the most suitable method of purchasing such as spot buying, contracts, blanket orders, purchase card orders, and supplier stocking arrangements.
Gain familiarity with the end use of assigned commodities, leading to recommending alternative materials or specifications.
Evaluate suppliers through methods such as supplier visitations and various objective performance measurements, including on-time delivery, service performance, and price performance.
Generate effective communications, good relations, and a positive image with suppliers and coworkers, promoting courtesy, objectivity, and fairness.
Meet or exceed annual objectives
Provide back-up administrative support to other departments, as requested.
May perform other duties, as assigned.

Authorized to approve and buy approved business related commodities, up to approved limit.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE:

 
Current or prior purchasing experience required
High School Diploma or GED equivalent required
B.S. or B.A., is preferred
Solid computer knowledge and use of Microsoft office products required.
General understanding of manufacturing terminology, processes, and procedures required
