Typesetter

DELTA DENTAL OF CALIFORNIA, a proven leader in the healthcare industry, is the state’s largest dental health carrier.  Together, the holding company members represent one of the largest dental benefits systems in the country, with 21 million enrollees.  At this time, PMI, an affiliate of Delta Dental has an opening for a Typesetter in our Printing and Distribution Deparment.

 

PURPOSE

 

To provide technical support print communication creation. To produce publications and special projects requiring expertise in Adobe Software, databases, and Microsoft Office on the personal computer.

 

FUNCTIONS

 

1. Create, design, typeset and maintain formats for internal/external print communications and special projects for the organization using Adobe software.

 

2. Coordinate with Publications Coordinator and various other departments to develop internal/external print communications according to specifications established by State and Federal government agencies.

 

3. Retrieve data from applicable databases, archive data and maintain files on network server, disks, and production system.

 

4. Assist with various departmental production needs and special projects 

 

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS AND/OR MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

 Manual dexterity and stamina for repetitive typing on the computer keyboard.  Working knowledge of PageMaker, In Design, PhotoShop, Illustrator, and Acrobat software.  Strong knowledge of printing-related typesetting and design.  Visual acuity to read hardcopy information and information on the computer screen to make corrections to spelling and grammar.  Written and verbal communication skills to effectively communicate and coordinate projects with the Underwriting and IS departments.  Successfully pass PMI's written grammar, spelling and punctuation test.  Ability to meet attendance requirements.  Math skills to create databases, documents and custom formats.  Stress management and organization skills.  Ability to follow detailed and complex instructions. Ability to apply reason to work load and provide status updates as needed.  Coursework in print design or comparable work experience.  Ability to work at a computer workstation for long periods of time.
