Director of Communications

Job Description: Director of Communications

 

The Director oversees all efforts within the department, and supervises the Communications Specialist and Intern(s).  He/She will report directly to the Chamber’s CEO, and works closely with the Directors of Economic Development, Conference & Visitors Bureau, Sales Operations and Planning and the Controller to ensure that the organization’s overall program of work is being effectively communicated, and those collective and individual efforts are being supported and promoted.  Specific areas of responsibilities include:

 

A.  Communications

 

· Develops and distributes communications materials regarding the Chamber, the Conference and Visitors Bureau and the Economic Development Division

· Develops relationships with members of the media and acts as the company’s spokesperson

· Receives media inquiries handling directly or delegating to other staff members 

· Supports and coordinates the organization’s needs for outside media firms as required by contracts/agreements/requests from departments/divisions of the Chamber.

· Writes and distributes press releases and advisories

· Produces and publishes Chamber newsletters

· Project manages the production of Beverly Hills Magazine in conjunction with the publisher including editorial, photography, design/layout, advertising sales/collection, and distribution.  Approves editorial calendars and plans for each issue of the magazine

· In conjunction with other department heads, coordinates art direction for all collateral and creative materials required by events, programs and services of the organization, including display advertising placed on behalf of Chamber/CVB where directed.

· Negotiate rates and terms for placement of Chamber display advertising, as required.

· Writes speeches, letters and similar materials on behalf of the CEO

 

B.  Website and Technology Management

 

· Develops a plan, in coordination with other department heads, the organization’s web site(s) strategies, capabilities and functionalities.

· Direct all internet activity including creative, content and programming functions, including serving as primary contact for outside parties engaged to perform web-based projects.

· Responsible for maintenance and upgrades to computer equipment and software specific to the needs of the department.

· Supports entire organization’s efforts to develop web site(s) revenue opportunities through advertising or other methodologies.

 

 

C.   Graphic Design

 

· Proficient in the use of graphic design software (Quark, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat, HTML and Mac OS)

 

D. Administrative

 

· Develop an annual budget for the department that supports the communications needs for the entire organization

· Issue and review all Requests for Bid generated by the department efforts.  Make recommendation to Controller, Executive Director, or Director to award contracts, unless directly related to Communications programming where contracts may be award if all organization policies and procedures have been respected.
