Annual Giving & Membership Manager (Full-Time/Exempt)
The Japanese American National Museum, located in downtown Los Angeles is a new model for American museums dedicated to transforming lives and strengthening community through the exploration of diverse histories, arts and culture.
Annual Giving & Membership Manager develops strategies and plans to raise annual, unrestricted gifts for the National Museum and National Center for the Preservation of Democracy (www.ncdemocracy.org).Responsible for meeting fiscal year Annual Giving goals through implementation of all modes of annual giving solicitation, includes direct mail and personal solicitation from current, past and potential members/donors.
Will plan and carry out one or more special appeals each year. Works closely with Development Officers and staff to identify and assist in cultivation of major gift donors/prospects.
Bachelor’s degree required. At least 3 years successful annual fund/membership management and annual fund marketing experience. Experience in member-based organization a plus. Similar experience in an academic environment acceptable. Excellent organizational skills and be detail oriented with ability to multi-task and prioritize. Knowledge of Japanese American history and culture with familiarity of Japanese surnames a plus.
Experience in public speaking and professional phone manner are essential. Ability to write correspondence, acknowledgement letters and reports.
Important that incumbent feel a commitment to the institution, its mission, program and future plans and to be able to communicate this commitment to current and prospective members/donors. Ability to develop, organize and analyze data in meaningful ways.
Computer literate, Internet savvy, familiar w/MS Office and experience w/Raiser’s Edge preferred.
May be required to work some evening and weekend hours as needed. Tues-Fri is the regular workweek.
