Quality Assurance Engineer

Position Summary:

This position reports to the Manager of Quality Assurance and plays an important role in assuring the division and customers’ quality requirements are met on assigned products, programs, areas, and functions. Accordingly, the incumbent participates in the review of all design, manufacturing, test, and supplier documentation to ensure that those requirements are fulfilled. This includes a review of design drawings and changes, operation procedures, test procedures, procurement documents, quality manuals, and inspection analyses.



Principle Duties:



1.  Designs and installs quality control process sampling systems, procedures, and statistical techniques; designs or specifies inspection and testing mechanisms and equipment; analyzes production limitations and standards; recommends revision of specifications when indicated; formulates or assists in formulating quality control policies and procedures; develops the economics of any quality control program when required.

2.  The major portion of the incumbent’s time is devoted to “support” of the operations group to which he/she is assigned. Such support includes providing visual aids and inspection analyses to assist the inspection process, and includes a key role serving as “referee” in making “accept” or “reject” decisions. In addition, support is provided to the Design Engineering group on engineering hardware, to the Customer Service Department on the analysis of hardware returned from the field, and to the Purchasing group for procurements.The incumbent also is responsible for reviewing quality trends associated with his/her assigned product and for participating in the generation and implementation of defect-reduction programs, which includes identifying the root causes of the problem, instituting corrective action and verifying effectiveness. Typical corrective actions include changes to operation procedures, generation of Engineering Change Requests, installation of fixtures, changes in the workstations, changes to inspection analyses, and changes to inspection test procedures. Hardware judged as discrepant is evaluated by the incumbent in accordance with quality requirement, and he/she determines its disposition or referral to the Material Review Board. The Quality Engineer may also participate directly in Material Review Board actions.

1.  Works with all Manufacturing areas to identify testing process improvements.

2.  Documents and maintains testing procedures and inspection work instructions.

3.  Works with existing supplier base to improve supplier performance and initiate corrective

action, and when necessary, performs on site Quality Surveys and Audits.

4.  Works with engineering and other key departments to support the design schedules. Reviews design characteristics to determine gauging requirements and perform gauge R & R.

5.  Assists in maintaining ISO 9000.

6.  Establishes product reliability testing.

7.  Implements and maintains the Supplier Management Program.

8.  Performs other duties as assigned or directed by immediate supervisor.

 

 

Experience Requirements:



1.  Must be familiar with computer programs such as: Access, Word, Excel, etc.

2.  Must have 1-3 years, verifiable work experience in quality, electronics or manufacturing. A background in industrial electronics is desired.

3.  Must be capable of documenting process instructions and procedures.

4.  Must be capable of working in a team environment, take on a leadership role when appropriate and be able to handle stressful situations.

5.  Working knowledge of 6 Sigma desired.

6.  Willing to travel and attend training as recommended.

 

 

Education:



1.  Bachelor Degree in Engineering (Manufacturing) preferred.

2.  Must have studied in areas of: statistics, management, experimental designs and/or be qualified as a Certified Quality Engineer.
