Lean Manufacturing Specialist - Birmingham, AL

Position Summary: Responsible for providing technical and training assistance at the District level in the implementation of O’Neal’s Lean Manufacturing System (OLMS).  Develop and maintain a professional working relationship with District and Operations management as well as sales, supervisors and hourly personnel in the District.  Champion Lean Manufacturing as a means to improve our product quality, reduce errors, increase our market share, increase our profits and decrease our cost of operation.  Along with district management, help lead the culture change needed to implement OLMS.

 

Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To:

·  Fully implement and maintain OLMS through out the district.  Insure employees are trained in the classroom and on the job in all Lean manufacturing concepts.  This includes continuous improvement, Value Stream Mapping, Kaizen, 5S, TPM, set-up reduction, standard work methods, mistake proofing, process certification, kanban and cellular manufacturing.

·  Conduct Value Stream Mapping events as we work towards the future state

·  Lead employee teams in Kaizen events during OLMS implementation.

·  Conduct economic feasibility studies as required

·  Analyze space requirements and prepare workspace layouts for warehouse equipment and inventory to improve operating efficiency.

·  Survey suppliers and users and make recommendations regarding equipment specifications and selection.

·  Prepare cost estimates and capital expenditure justification.

·  Conduct time studies and work sampling to provide costing information and tools for improving production efficiencies.

·  Quality Responsibility: Responsible for providing error-free work to all internal and external customers as related to the output of the position.

 

Required Skills:  To qualify for consideration an applicant must possess the following skills.  Possession of these skills is a prerequisite for employment. 

 

Education and Language:  possess at least an associate’s degree in engineering, business, statistics, or equivalent work experience in the industrial engineering or quality management  field, speak conversational English.

 

Prior Experience:  MEP Lean Certificate or 1 year of experience in Lean Manufacturing techniques or equivalent experience in the field of industrial engineering. 

 

Special Skills (above average skill required): training skills, interpersonal skills, motivation, analysis and interpretation, communication (oral and written), organization, problem solving, developing and implementing technical ideas, developing group cooperation and teamwork, coping with difficulties and emergencies.

 

Additional Skills:  must be able to concentrate and maintain productivity in high-pressure situations.

 

Desirable Skills:  The following skills are considered important to this position but may be learned on the job.  Applicants will not be eliminated from consideration if they do not possess these skills.

 

Education :  Possess a college degree in Engineering.  MEP Lean Certificate

 

Special Skills; (above average skill required); interdepartmental coordination, judgment and decision making, handling outside contacts, promoting safety attitudes and practices.
