Responsibilities:

The position will involve a wide range of activities, including: (i) patent application drafting and prosecution in the medical field, with an emphasis on instrumentation and medical devices utilized in cataract and retinal surgery; (ii) direct involvement with engineers and R&D project teams; (iii) complex patentability and freedom to operate analyses and associated legal counseling of senior management; and (iv) involvement with R&D-related agreements, including complex patent licensing transactions and joint research collaborations. The position will require frequent travel to Alcon's research and development facility for ophthalmic surgical instrumentation, located in Irvine, California.

Qualifications:

* JD or LLB from an ABA-accredited law school.

* BS/BA or MS/MA or PhD in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, physics or closely related discipline.

* Licensed/admitted to practice as a patent attorney before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), and licensed to practice law in at least one state.

* Four or more years of relevant law firm or corporate experience as a patent attorney is preferred.
* Excellent people, written/oral communication and organizational skills complemented by the ability to perform as an effective member of the IP Legal team.
