Legislative Analyst

Our continued growth and success has created the need for additional like-minded professionals to serve as a New Laws and Regulations Legislative Analyst.
The New Laws and Regulations Legislative Analyst will be responsible for reviewing, analyzing, and tracking new and existing laws and regulations for their impact on supported Health and Life products. This position will also assist in the coordination and monitoring of business unit’s implementation of action plans and programs required for attaining and maintaining regulatory compliance. The Legislative Analyst will also support other legislative research and regulatory projects as assigned.
Job Responsibilities:
Research and analyze legislative and regulatory requirements from an identified set of required sources and queries as needed to ensure compliance.Complete the evaluation, interpretation and determine applicability of new and proposed legislation.Identify initial applicability to HealthMarkets products, services, distribution, or operations. Log pending, proposed, enacted and adopted legislation, legislation, regulations, circulars, directives, and bulletins in the centralized database. Document all legislative decisions deemed not applicable within centralized database.Communicate to Business Units any potentially applicable new laws and regulations. Verify the receipt of communication.Assist with informing management of changes or updates to regulatory requirements.Satisfy requests for research related to specific legislation/regulations. Participate in special projects/initiatives as required. Represent NLR and/or Corporate Compliance as required on special projects and initiatives.
Insurance experience or related experience in the Compliance and/or Legal areas of an organization. Health Insurance industry experience is preferable.Demonstrated experience researching state and federal laws and regulations, with ability to apply research to Company practices and products.Three to five (3-5) years of paralegal experience.BA/BS and/or Paralegal Certificate preferredDemonstrated proficiency with computer and standard business software (MS Office applications or equivalent) and the ability to learn in-house and other systems quickly with minimal training.
Knowledge and Skills:
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, customer focus and follow-up skills.
Outstanding communication skills including excellent verbal, written, and presentation abilities.
Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain productive relationships with internal and external peers and partners.
Ability to prioritize and multi-task while paying attention to detail and meeting tight deadlines.
Flexible individual with can-do attitude.
Possess a high level of motivation and professionalism, and demonstrates ethical conduct and good judgment at all times while conducting Company business.
