Excellent Opportunity for In-House Legal Assistant - Compliance & Ethics

The Corporate law department of a worldwide oil & gas company seeks a legal assistant to provide direct support to the Chief Compliance Officer, Ethics & Compliance Director, Investigative Legal Counsel and Senior Compliance Counsel. A minimum of 5 years experience is required, and a paralegal certificate is strongly preferred. Specific duties include:

•Assist the Ethics & Compliance Director and Senior Compliance Counsel in the development, implementation, management and enhancement of the processes in place for the Business Help Line and Code of Conduct Questionnaire;

•Accept, manage and report on incoming calls to the Business Help Line;

•Gather preliminary information and, when possible, perform initial investigation on all matters reported to Business Help Line or through other means;

•Investigate Code of Conduct and Business Help Line matters and present findings to appropriate supervising counsel for further guidance, final determination, and file closure;

•Create, maintain, and manage Code of Conduct Questionnaire tracking system, which is used to assign and manage in excess of 140,000 responses from over 8,300 employees;

•Manage Devesys database on all matters reported to the Ethics and Compliance Team through the Business Help Line or through other means;

•Assist the Ethics & Compliance Director in creating and reporting metrics from the Business Help Line, Code of Conduct Questionnaire and Ethics & Compliance Program generally;

•Assist the Chief Compliance Officer and Ethics & Compliance Director in creating summary reports for senior management and the Audit Ethics Committee on matters received through Business Help Line and other means;

•Assist the Chief Compliance Officer and Ethics & Compliance Director with the development of a compliance risk assessment program to periodically assess risk of criminal conduct and take appropriate steps to design, implement, or modify Ethics and Compliance Program to reduce these risks;

•Assist and support Investigative Counsel in preparation of Legal Audits of Non-U.S. Representatives;

•Develop, maintain and update FAQs and case studies;

•Assist in general inquiries concerning compliance matters and conduct referrals, when appropriate;

•Interface with various positions and departments across the company in support of compliance activities;

•Conduct research in applicable laws, rules, and regulations via Westlaw and other research methods;

•Perform other substantive legal assignments as needed in order to meet departmental goals; and

•Participate in budget-planning.
