Search Software Engineer - Snap.com
The Company: Snap is a new search engine for advanced users with broadband. Snap provides Internet searchers with unparalleled rich media results, advanced user controls, and superior relevance through its proprietary algorithms using human click stream data. Snap has received accolades from both the search industry and general business press (Time Magazine Top 50 Cool Websites, 2006). The company was started by Idealab and its Chairman Bill Gross, a serial entrepreneur who has started dozens of successful companies including GoTo.com (now known as Overture Services) the leading pay for performance search engine which was sold to Yahoo in 2003. Snap.com is a service of Perfect Market Technologies, Inc and is located in Idealab’s offices in Pasadena, CA
Position Purpose:
This person will be an integral member of the Snap Search Technology Team developing the core search engine for Snap.com. This individual will work on the implementation of a large scale crawling and indexing system in a distributed LINUX server environment. The system must manage terabytes of data and scale algorithms to work on very large data sets while offering configuration for smaller crawls. This individual will work other members of the team on search algorithms, data mining, improving relevancy or search results and serving search results using a large network of LINUX servers.
