Lock Smith
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Provides locksmith services for damaged locksets /keys or lost key replacement as required.
2. Repairs / replaces locksets or keys of lost, broken or damaged locksets; duplicates key (s) as required.
3. Maintains positive key control of Housing facility keys; serves a Primary Key Custodian for the Camp Housing facilities.
4. Operates the key control system IAW AR 190-51 and ASG-KU policy directives.
5. Trains, certifies and schedules western and non-western staff to meet SOW requirements.
6. Liaises with ASG-KU PMO Physical Security section on matters of key control and accountability.
7. Issues, receives room/facility keys and maintains spare keys IAW AR 190-51.
8. Conducts periodic preventative facility maintenance inspections of lock assemblages.
9. Conducts daily, weekly, monthly and required semi-annual key control inventories.
10. Assists locked-out individuals in gaining access to their quarters; 24 hours a day.
11. Troubleshoots lock sets or keys requiring repair or replacement
12. Escorts/supervises DPW contractor workers when required.
13. Inspects key room documentation to insure compliance with AR 190-51 requirements.
14. Investigates lost or missing key reports. Recommends course of action to DPW Operations staff.
15. Serves as Sub-hand Receipt holder for key room property and furnishings.
16. Recommends enhancements to the key control process to improve security and accountability.
17. Provides answers to customer inquiries regarding key control.
18. Maintains automated databases to manage key inventories.
19. Assists in maintaining lock system integrity.
20. Performs other related tasks as directed.
Essential Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
1. Education:
a. Requires high school diploma or equivalent.
b. Requires completion of USAMPS Physical Security Course (ASI-H3), equivalent civilian curriculum or two years of equivalent on the job experience.
c. Prefer Associates degree in Police Science, Criminology, or Industrial Security
d. Prefer some undergraduate study in accounting and office automation.
2. Experience:
a. Requires a minimum of 3 years experience as a civilian supporting military key control effort as either a DA/DOD civilian or government contractor.
b. Requires demonstrable experience with provisions of AR 190-51 and use of DA form 1355R for controlling and issuing keys. Should be familiar with DA PAM 190-11.
c. Prefer familiarity with commercial master key theories and echeloning.
3. Specialized knowledge:
a. Knowledge of AR 190-51 requirements is critical for this position
4. Skills:
a. Must have a US, Kuwaiti, home country, or international driver’s license.
b. Must be familiar with US military rank structure and military courtesy protocol
c. Must speak, read and write English fluently.
d. Intermediate proficiency in MS Office® software packages. Advanced proficiency in FormFlow preferred.
e. Must be able to work independently without supervision.
f. Must be prepared to work shifts, including nights and weekends.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
a. Must be able to lift and move 25 lbs continuously and 50 lbs occasionally.
b. Must be able to work indoors and outdoors in harsh, dusty environments with severe temperature extremes.
c. Must be able to sit, stand, walk, bend and stretch for extended periods
d. Must have full use of hands and fingers, and dexterity to handle small parts
e. Must have eyesight correctable to 20/40 in both eyes and ability to see small items for long periods without undue fatigue.
f. Must have no physical disabilities that would preclude the performance of primary duties.
g. Requires ability to work for long periods at standard computer screens.
h. Requires a criminal history background check.
