Shipping/Receiving Supervisor

This position will be responsible for ensuring proper operation and execution of all warehouse functions to meet external and internal customer requirements.  Primary responsibilities include:



1. Anticipating problems, deciding work priorities and assigning duties, revising plans to account for changed circumstances, initiating action in an emergency.

2. Must ensure the proper handling, shipping, and receiving of hazardous/non-hazardous materials in compliance with state and federal laws.

3. Maintains accurate records of materials shipped and received.

4. Plans and directs the workflow of the warehouse to ensure the site meets all shipping/receiving requirements.

5. Maintains dock audits on product and packaging requirements.

6. Maintains accuracy of warehouse management system.

7. Assists with monthly, yearly and special physical inventories.

8. Directs and demonstrates safety/housekeeping practices and policies.

9. Make daily perimeter checks of warehouses and Hazardous Waste Storage areas for non-compliance of procedure.

10. Administer shipping supplies inventory to ensure sufficient quantities are on hand.

11. Operate in a safe and efficient manner by following written job procedures.  Recognize and report any health and/or safety hazards.

12. Promoting cooperation within department; acting as a liaison between warehouse and other departments.

13. Duties and responsibilities relative to hazardous waste (Reference 40CFR265.16D): Know how to

a) Activate the emergency plan and the alarm systems in case of fire or spill of hazardous material

b) Determine if a material is hazardous, and if it is hazardous waste

c) Apply proper labels and markings to hazardous waste containers

d) Maintain all containers so as to prevent spills or fire

e) Respond to spills or fire appropriately

f)To comply with applicable RCRA rules





1. High school or equivalent education.

2. 5+ years of job-related work experience in a warehouse environment.

3. 3+ years of management experience in a warehouse environment.

4. Experience implementing and maintaining a warehouse management system.

5. Experience implementing and maintaining housekeeping and safety standards.

6. Experience working in a 7 day / 24 hr manufacturing environment.

7. Proficient in Microsoft office.

8. Incumbent must be certified in forklift operation.

9. Experience in the handling and transportation of hazardous materials desirable.

10. Ability to clearly and concisely communicate, or respond to, any problems, issues or events while ensuring good public relations are maintained.

11. Preferred thorough knowledge of BASF product lines, containers, customer specifications and shipping procedures.

12. Required knowledge of current DOT, IATA and OSHA regulations for proper compliance.

13. Preferred working knowledge of order processing and inventory control systems (SAP or other ERP systems).

14. Preferred knowledge on the preparation of export requirements and documents needed for the shipment of materials to foreign countries.

15. Training, both initial and yearly, is required in the following areas (Reference 40CFR265.16D): Hazardous Waste Management, emergency procedures, contingency plan, safety, security, and tank and container management.
