Career Counselor

Job Purpose: Helps students by providing educational and vocational guidance and counseling services.

Duties:

* Collects, organizes, and analyzes information about students by reviewing records, tests, interviews, and professional sources.

* Provides vocational and educational planning by evaluating student interests, aptitudes, abilities, and personality characteristics.

* Helps students carry out vocational and educational objectives by studying, compiling, and applying occupational, educational, and economic information to student plans.

* Helps students complete educational applications by coaching them, providing insights into educational institution preferences in applicants.

* Helps students find employment by referring them to the placement office; coaching them in utilizing the internet in their job searches; offering resources in resume writing and personal presentation skills.

* Keeps teaching staff informed by conducting in-service training sessions; keeping them abreast of developments in educational and vocational counseling; alerting them to emerging issues.

* Improves quality results by studying, evaluating, and re-designing processes; implementing changes.

* Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.

* Enhances counseling and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
