Multi-Specialty Technologist/Mammography
Overview : This position performs prescribed procedures, in two or more of the radiology specialties, by following department/hospital policies, procedures and protocols. This position demonstrates competence to ensure optimal care/treatment of neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients. Service excellence is demonstrated by consistently exhibiting the BH Service Standards in the performance of this job.
Responsibilities :
1. Performs the setup and acquisition of prescribed procedures, in two or more of the radiology specialties i.e.: Diagnostic/Mammography, Diagnostic/Special Procedures, Diagnostic/C.T, etc., in accordance with established departmental /hospital policies and procedures. Educates patients/families regarding the procedure and/or treatment to be performed. Examples:
a) Obtains and verifies physician order.
b) Selects proper equipment settings and technical factors.
c) Recognizes anatomy and pathology.
d) Explains procedure to patient and family.
2. Performs the processing of prescribed diagnostic imaging procedures in accordance with established departmental/hospital policies and procedures. Examples:
a) Correctly identifies and labels films, images, and data submitted to the physician for interpretation.
b) Optimizes the image quality of the films, images, and data submitted to the physician for interpretation.
3. Performs prescribed special procedures, in two or more of the radiology specialties i.e.: Diagnostic/Mammography, Diagnostic/Special Procedures, Diagnostic/C.T, etc., in accordance with established departmental /hospital policies and procedures. Examples:
a) Obtains and verifies required documentation. (i.e. H&P; Lab.; Surgery & Path. Reports; Physician order; Consent; and previous diagnostic/therapeutic exam reports.)
b) Performs room setup to ensure safety and prevent contamination.
c) Selects proper equipment and technical factors.
d) Recognizes anatomy and pathology.
e) Assists the physician.
f) Performs room cleanup.
4. Performs and evaluates equipment quality control measurements as indicated. Demonstrates the ability to trouble shoot and notify appropriate personnel to maintain equipment performance.
5. Ensures the efficient operation and workflow of the department by scheduling and re-evaluating workflow throughout the day. This is accomplished by having the exam rooms stocked, performing room set-up, establishing patient transport, and schedule coordination with multi-disciplinary team members.
6. Prepares and maintains accurate documentation. Examples:
a) Patient and exam history forms, requisitions, order verification, transmittals, RadNet functions, film jackets, content labels.
b) Processing appropriate and timely charges for all procedures and supplies.
Follows safety standards in all aspects of performance of the above functions, reports/removes unsafe equipment and attends safety education sessions.
Qualifications :
Requires certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist, licensure by the Arizona Medical Radiologic Technologist Board of Examiners and Mammography License. Two years of clinical experience in one or more of the specialties being practiced is desirable.
