Donor Alliance is a recognized leader in facilitating the donation and recovery of transplantable organs and tissues.  Our primary objectives are to save and enhance the lives of others through effective family approach and recovery programs in hospitals, and to increase the awareness of the need for organ and tissue donation throughout Colorado and Wyoming.  Donor Alliance is currently seeking candidates for the following position:

 

TISSUE DONOR COORDINATOR – Denver, Colorado  

 

The Tissue Donor Coordinator functions as the shift leader for all incoming donor referrals, other than heart-beating referrals.  Primary responsibilities include the coordination of all tissue recovery.  The Tissue Donor Coordinator also ensures that all donor-related activity on the assigned shift is conducted thoroughly, accurately and in a professional manner.  The coordinator will work both independently and as a team member to represent Donor Alliance in evaluating and documenting potential tissue donors and in developing and maintaining donor referral sources.  These activities are essential to the fulfillment of the company mission.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

1. Bachelor’s degree in a life science, certification in surgical technology/medical/paramedical professional is preferred to perform all functions of the position and/or equivalent work related experience.

2. Strong and effective interpersonal skills in order to communicate effectively with donor families, the medical community and general public, as well as Donor Alliance, Partnering agencies, and volunteers.  The coordinator will have to routinely deal with death, and grieving families in a caring and professional manner.

3. Intermediate computer skills desired in order to perform the data entry aspects of the position.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

 

1. Evaluates potential bone and tissue donors according to Donor Alliance and American Association of Tissue Banks (AATB) medical criteria to provide tissue, which is safe for transplantation.  This will be accomplished through effectively communicating (by phone or in person) with other transplant agencies, the donor facility, the donor family, the donor’s physician, funeral home, and coroner personnel.

2. Obtains consent for donation and detailed medical/social history from the donor’s legal next-of-kin, in a caring and sensitive manner, either over the phone or in person using standard consent forms to facilitate the donation process.

3. Effectively coordinates the surgical teams responsible for recovering bone and soft tissue in order to facilitate the donation process.  This will include the scheduling of facilities, selection and notification of teams and team members, travel arrangements, donor transport, and coordination with other transplant agencies.

4. Works collaboratively with the recovery coordinators to organize and complete the donor records and charts in a timely manner so that tissue may be released for transplantation.  This is accomplished through oral and written communication with donor families, referral facility personnel, other transplant agencies, physicians, and pathologists as well as through data entry, and document compilation.

5. Performs timely and accurate donor screening and coordination to provide coverage every day of the year to meet the mission of Donor Alliance and further the donation process within the community.
