MEDICAL RECORDS SUPERVISOR

Education/Licensure/Certification: Bachelors degree in Health Administration, Business Management or related field preferred. Related experience might be considered in lieu of a degree. Accredited Records Technician (ART) or Registered Records Associate (RRA) certification preferred.
Qualifications: Significant supervisory experience required (usually 4 years). Strong supervisory skills, systems skills, and computer background preferred. Must have excellent organizational, training, problem solving and communication skills. Basic knowledge about the operations of MRMS (Medical Records Management System) required. Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with health care professional and outside vendors required. Knowledge of federal, state, and local requirements. Must be able to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.
Preferred Qualifications: RHIA, RHIT License. Medical records or similar health care related experience. Knowledge of budget, finance, medical terminology, statistics and release of information and patient confidentiality. Facilitation and personal computer skills (Word and Excel).
Duties: Plans and oversees workflow for the chartroom, assigns or reassigns the work force daily to ensure excellent service according to changing needs. Hires, orients, and trains all new personnel. Ensures their competency and compliance with federal, state and local requirements. Acts as direct liaison to all clinic personnel and physicians. Resolves problems by assisting medical staff departments with addressing their issues and concerns. Establishes corrective action to address such issues. Conducts necessary quality audits. Investigates methods and approaches for improving department functioning ensuring files are updated on a timely basis. Maintains cost effective utilization of staff, equipment and supplies. Develops and monitors budgets, and identifies capital equipment and renovation needs. Manages all outside vendor relationships to ensure that services are being received in a timely, cost effective manner. Develops, implements, and evaluates departmental policies and procedures. Identifies and implements opportunities to improve quality and service. Consistently supports compliance and the Principles of Responsibility (Kaiser Permanente's Code of Conduct) by maintaining the privacy and confidentiality of information, protecting the assets of the organization, acting with ethics and integrity, reporting non compliance, and adhering to applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations, accreditation and licenser requirements (if applicable), and Kaiser Permanente's policies and procedures.
