Meaningful Work Experience



 

Work beside some dedicated, altruistic people who are pioneers at heart.  Some employees have given their entire careers and lives to serve a people who suffer from socioeconomic conditions and who still fish and hunt for sustenance.  These native Alaskan Yupik people embrace and encourage family values and love their community.  The Yupik people believe that their elders are to be respected and valued. Some other employees will give these native people a portion of their career, benefiting from the rich cultural experience and receiving satisfaction from giving to an underserved people. Those that come to a place called Bethel, Alaska will also serve over 58 villages that span a territory the size of Oregon.  Many of these villages still do not have running water.  These people truly appreciate the medical assistance provided to them, giving those that serve respect and honor.

 

Fair Compensation

 

Compensation for your profession is market competitive:  Low: $38.89 per hour; mid: $48.61 per hour; Top: $58.33 per hour.  Benefits are particularly good with extremely low co-pays for full health insurance.  A single person pays just $10 bi-weekly, a family $30 bi-weekly.  The retirement plan is also very good with a matching program in addition to a generous amount put in your retirement for each and every employee. We have sign-on/retention bonus for NP's/PA's at $7,500, payable at the end of employee's probationary period of 90 days, $10,000, payable at the end of year two, and $12,500, payable at the end of year three.  A very competitive relocation package offered. 

 

Eligibility for Loan Repayment up to $20,000.00 per Year

 

In order to help assist these underserved people, the Indian Health Services (IHS) has loan repayment programs available.  Loan repayment is not guaranteed with offer of employment, as all employees must apply directly through Indian Health Services.  Since this is not absolutely guaranteed, we ask that you do not make this program your sole reason to come work in Bethel.  Instead, look at it as a potential added bonus for serving your fellow man.  Opportunities for other scholarships through the National Health Services Corp. is also available for eligibility.

The Opportunity 

 

Position Summary:



Assist with ongoing program planning, development and implementation of diabetes-related chronic disease prevention and treatment projects. Provide medical management, care and education for persons diagnosed with diabetes and related chronic conditions in conjunction with the diabetes team and related care providers. Assist with diabetes-related health promotion projects.



 

Requirements: Master’s Degree in the Science of Nursing; preferred Master’s Degree in Public Health (MPH). Two (2) years experience in family practice, chronic disease management or related clinical setting. Preferred experience working in public health programming. Experience providing patient care and/or teaching in a cross-cultural setting. Experience working with database and case management. Experience collaborating with a variety of disciplines for project completion. Nurse Practitioner, national certification, licensed and in good standing or eligible for licensure in the State of Alaska. Nurse Practitioner must be eligible for a DEA number and eligible for credentialing at YK Delta Regional Hospital in Bethel. Preferred Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE). Work in a typical office, hospital and field clinical settings. Travel to villages via small plane/sub-arctic conditions, moderate lifting of equipment, occasional long working hours and overnight stays in village clinics up to a few days are required. Strong knowledge base in the field of diabetes and public health. Computer skills and organizational skills. Preferred bi-lingual (Yup’ik/ English). Ability to work in a group setting, ability to work in remote villages. Ability to work with people of different cultures/backgrounds. Ability to be flexible and handle stress. 

 



 



Travelers: We are looking to develop our own pool of NP/PA's.  We offer round trip transportation, lodging, and an excellent hourly rate.  We will be at or above agency compensation.
