Occupational Therapist

The OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST is a qualified healthcare professional who directs, supervises, evaluates and provides occupational therapy services to clients in the home as prescribed by the attending physician.

He/she is responsible for: (1) providing skilled occupational therapy to patients whose meaningful and purposeful occupations (activities of daily living, work and productive activities, play and leisure) have been disrupted by injury, disease, or other cause; (2) recording clinical and progress notes; and (3) coordinating other patient care activities/services to provide the highest quality of patient care in the geographic service area to which he/she is assigned. He/she works under the supervision of the designated supervisor.

Required Skills:
1. Graduation from an occupational therapy program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education.

2. Registered by the American Occupational Therapy Association and licensed in the state(s) in which he/she is required to practice, if the state has registry practices, or passed the national entry-level certification exam administered by the N.B.C.O.T.

3. A minimum of one year of acute, rehab, or long-term care experience required; previous home care experience preferred.

4. Ability to relate to and treat acutely ill/chronically ill patients/families and their particular problems.

5. Must possess strong patient assessment, patient management and documentation skills.

6. Ability to function in any home situation regardless of age, race, creed, color, sex, disability, or financial condition of the patient.

7. Must possess the disposition and personality to work harmoniously with a wide variety of people and all levels of staff, and interact professionally as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.

8. Must possess a strong commitment to the goals, mission, and philosophy of the organization.

9. Ability to work flexible hours as required to meet identified patient needs.

10. Absolute integrity and the use of good judgment to handle the professional and confidential nature of assignments..

11. Ability to adapt to changing organizational needs.

12. Speaks, writes, reads, and comprehends English.
