Associate Director, Ctr for Catastrophe Preparedness & Response

Description:
Office of Sr VP for Health - Center for Catastrophe Preparedness & Response.
Under the supervision of the Director, the Associate Director will lead the development and management of the Center for Catastrophe Preparedness and Response (CCPR), an emergency preparedness center conducting research and developing solutions for public and private sector organizations to address the threat of global terrorism. Some of the key responsibilities include:
- Identify, design, and implement research projects that reflect the Center's mandate and that meet the needs of a host of constituencies (Department of Homeland Security, local and national emergency responder organizations, foundations, international associations, etc.) and ensure NYU's relevance to the expanding Homeland Security research market
- Develop relationships and consult with external constituents (Congress, other universities, terrorism research centers, research sponsors,community groups, first responder organizations) to develop new sources of funding for collaborative projects; Create a successful funding strategy to ensure ongoing sustainability of the Center; Lead preparation of grants and foundation applications
- Assist the Director with the presentation of briefings to the Center's Board of Advisors which includes the commissioners of all New York City public safety agencies (NYPD, FDNY, NYC OEM) and US congressional members to communicate results of the Center's research and programs
- Oversee project managers or subcontractors on research projects to ensure quality control and timely completion of deliverables

Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree and 5 years' increasingly responsible professional level governmental affairs and grants and/or project management in an academic, government or research environment or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must include experience supervising staff.

Ability to work effectively in multiple settings: University, government, non-profit and industry. Excellent organization, interpersonal, analytical, and communication skills (oral and written). Ability to establish and manage multiple priorities and complex, multi-component projects. Ability to respond to multiple constituencies and resolve competing/conflicting demands. Knowledge of laws, principles, rules, and policies relating to federally-funded grants and contracts to universities. Self-initiative and dead-line orientation a must. Strong attention to detail. Ability to travel.

Master's degree in Business Administration or Public Policy and 5 years' related experience in academic research preferred. Knowledge of federal, state and local government, particularly those elements related to first responders, national security at a strategic level, and issues related to counterterrorism, catastrophe preparedness and response. Knowledge of the world related to catastrophe response and ability to translate first responder training and preparedness needs into usable products and information. Proven ability to raise research funding all preferred.
