Plan Review Consultant

Vanguard, one of the world's largest investment management companies, seeks an experienced Plan Consultant to support the implementation of qualified retirement plans by reviewing new plans and completing required documents and agreements, and to assist and support full-service plan consulting projects in our Institutional Retirement Plan Services group. This position is in our Scottsdale, AZ office.

Duties and Responsibilities:

You'll consult with clients to draft plan documents. You'll analyze incoming qualified retirement plans to identify administrative challenges posed by plan provisions, and consult with internal departments on their resolution. If plans fit the Vanguard prototype, you'll follow the required procedures for completing adoption agreements, summary plan descriptions and subsequent amendments.

You'll review Systems Requirements Documents (SRDs) for accuracy for both new and existing plans undergoing mergers or transfers. You'll prepare protected benefit and merger analyses in connection with plan mergers involving both individually designed and prototype plans. You also will prepare Internal Revenue Service determination letters for final plan documents.

You'll regularly track assignment and status of requests from internal implementation and client services groups and report on trends and completion rates.

You will assist consultants on special projects for full-service clients, including: researching and correcting operational issues; summarizing current legislative proposals and their impact; and assisting on ERISA/Code compliance issues. You'll identify, research, and recommend improvements to client service, processes and consulting provided by IRPS.

You'll be expected to remain current on retirement plan issues, legislative changes and industry trends.

You'll participate in special projects and perform other duties as assigned.

Position Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Advanced certifications (ASPA, CEBS) preferred. Three to five years of specific related work experience (e.g., defined contribution plan administration or related experience in either a legal, consulting or corporate setting). Strong knowledge of ERISA and administrative experience with both qualified and non-qualified plans. Strong project-management and organizational skills. Ability to meet multiple deadlines in close proximity. Detail orientation and excellent problem-solving skills. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Familiarity with VGI systems and variety of software applications including Word, Lotus Notes, Excel and internet.
