Compliance Analyst

•People leader position responsible for supporting and maintaining an effective Anti-money laundering (AML) compliance program.
•Will work with the Manager and ensure monitoring of Travelers Chequest (TC) paper product transactions and reports suspicious transactions to the appropriate authorities.
•Responsible for leading, training, guiding and motivating the work of a Team of AML Investigative Assistants who review transactions and other reports to select specific transactions for further review/action.
•Will work with a Team of AML Investigative Assistants to effectively and accurately detect and deter misuse of American Express Travelers Cheque & Prepaid Services paper products, documenting issues as requested, required, or necessary.
•Assist management in building and maintaining regulatory relationships and perform other tasks to support compliance program effectiveness.
•Provide leadership in determining optimal compliance structure and practices for this regulatory monitoring requirement with a focus to developing and enhancing existing monitoring and reporting.
•Ensure implementation or revision of policies and procedures to achieve compliance programs consistent with American Express standards.
•Build and maintain strong trust relationship.
•Support management as assigned in pertinent product strategic initiatives, to ensure legal and compliance requirements are incorporated into business end to end processes.
•Utilize available tools to evaluate compliance program effectiveness and devise solutions to address new legal and regulatory developments.
•Review daily/other monitoring reports using a decision matrix to determine TC items for monitoring review.
•Must be able to demonstrate TC systems expertise in monitoring and analysis of AML requirements.
•Create and maintain case files to monitor and document disposition of selling outlets. Create spreadsheets to facilitate documentation and reporting of data collection.
•Prepare, review, edit and communicate Suspicious Activity report.
•Monitor and review case files to ensure accuracy and consistency.
•Responsible for monthly department statistics; productivity, quality and ad hoc reporting requests.
•Act on periodic information requests from HQ Compliance & Ethics, Risk Management or Corp Security.


1. Collaborate on and lead the deployment of effective risk based AML programs for Travelers Cheques & Prepaid Service products/services.
2. Provide effective leadership/guidance to business management to resolve AML compliance issues timely
3. Maintain positive relations and trust while initiating change, support the Blue Box Values at all times.
4. Meeting regulatory reporting timeframes with at hand information to make go, no go decisions for reporting.
5. Ability to balance multiple tasks; challenges and inputs simultaneously and to remain clearly focused on priorities while providing Team leadership
6. Ability to persuade others to accomplish tasks to facilitate getting required tasks/projects completed.
7. Obtaining timely data to review and analyze to determine the disposition of TC transactions/Selling Outlet volumes/Market trends/regulations.
8. Ability to work as necessary with a diverse AML Team and to focus on individual work as required to drive results
9. Ability to work in a systematic and detailed manner for daily production. Project management skills very helpful.
10. Demonstrated strong analytical skills and leadership abilities. Incumbent must be proactive, results oriented and self driven. Must be able to take initiative in resolving compliance issues, identify and solve problems constructively
11. Able to work independently w/minimal supervision motivating others to do the same in completing tasks timely
12. Strong TRS experience important. Background or experience dealing with legal or regulatory issues helpful. Experience in one or more of the following fields very helpful: Banking, Compliance, Card, Legal, Finance, or Audit.
13. Incumbent must be able to skillfully interact with different levels of management and employees in the organization and must be able to deliver presentations/training to larger groups.
14. Ability to travel as required for business line or compliance meetings. (travel is infrequent)
15. Computer proficiency including ALARMS, Main Frame systems, MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Lotus Notes, knowledge of TC systems, products and processes very helpful. Access database skills helpful
