Business Systems Analyst

We are currently seeking a Business Systems Analyst to be an integral part of our Finance team.
The Business Systems Analyst will be responsible for analyzing and defining business systems requirements from a US perspective on local and/or global business systems projects, with the objective of achieving a balance between global and local interests. The Business Systems Analyst will work closely with US and UK business and technology teams to contribute, as needed, to the analysis, specification, design, implementation, and ongoing evaluation of business-system solutions.
The primary responsibilities of this role will include:
Investigate and model business functions, processes, information flows and data structures, using appropriate techniques. Investigate operational requirements and issues and communicate findings and/or recommendations to appropriate teams/individuals to contribute to improvements in information systems, data management, processes/procedures, organization and equipment. Apply information analysis and modeling techniques, based upon a detailed understanding of the business processes and corporate information requirements, to establish, modify and/or maintain information objects and structures. Provide advice and guidance to database designers and others who will implement or use the objects. Provide models and specifications for business solutions using resources, standards, methods and tools as required. Maintain links with appropriate counterparts within Blackwell, and provide tangible contributions from project inception through implementation. Assess the implications of new processes and systems, and propose transition strategies. Provide cogent, concise, and timely documentation of results. Contribute to the design of disciplined strategies for the communication of project deliverables to remote recipients. Contribute analytic, technical, and communication skills to implementation efforts. Utilize business experience and skills to assess and advise on the practicality and relative cost of alternatives, balancing the relative strengths of human and technological contributions to business solutions. Understand and participate in practices governing Blackwell’s software life-cycle; contribute ideas for improvement. Proactively maintain and improve technical literacy in step with the direction of projects and programs undertaken by the team.
Qualifications:Minimum of 4 years experience in business/systems analysis or corporate positions requiring the fusion of technical, business, operational, and project-management expertise. Bachelor’s Degree required, preferably in a technical or scientific field of study; advanced-degree a plus.
Business-operational knowledge, preferably related to publishing, coupled with technical proficiency in at least one area related to software systems. Demonstrated ability to effectively work under pressure, manage multiple projects and deadlines and deliver projects or project components on time and with high quality. Relationship-management skills are essential, including the ability to relate successfully to a variety of people externally and internally, and personal commitment to internal/external customer satisfaction. Demonstrated effective business communications (written, verbal and listening), presentation and interpersonal skills are required. Requires a high level of diplomacy along with demonstrated effective negotiation and problem-solving skills. Must be results-oriented with strong planning, organizational and time management skills. Must have a proven ability to apply sound judgment and decision-making skills, and demonstrate strong analytic skills.
