Position Summary:
The Senior Auditor conducts a variety of reviews of business processes and audit assignments in the areas of professional and comprehensive risk assessments, IT, financial, operational and compliance audits to identify business risks, mitigating controls, and controls deficiencies. Performs traditional audit testing and periodic audits of past activities, as well real time and near time continuous auditing and monitoring of processes and data, as well as future focused (readiness) assessments.
Key Accountabilities:
Essential Functions:
Performs complex operational, financial and compliance audit assignments and risk assessments
Provides senior analytical support to the Audit Project Leader and to more Senior Audit Staff on a variety of internal audit initiatives throughout the Company
Performs Sarbanes Oxley internal control assessments of controls for financial reporting.
Performs all phases of audit assignments including planning, fieldwork, analysis and reporting.
Provides consultative business advisory service to all assigned internal customers (auditees) and develops control consciousness in the business units audited
Participates in the review and assessment of operational work flows and related procedures to ensure efficient and economical use of corporate resources and the reliability, consistency, and integrity of financial and operating information, and compliance work
Uses auditing tools and techniques to collect and analyze information, controls, assesses the effectiveness and efficiency of operations and compliance: documents findings
Analyzes and assesses issues and risks and develops recommendations for solutions
Provides ongoing communication regarding work status or operational exceptions with auditees and audit leadership; identifies and communicates any exposure area; conducts regular follow up to ensure that outstanding items are resolved
Discusses audit findings and suggestions for process improvements with auditees and audit leadership team
Drafts timely audit communications, reports, and supporting documentation
As part of the Audit team, contributes to operational readiness and business risk assessments
Performs readiness assessment for new systems applications and processes to determine readiness prior to implementation
Challenges/Problem Solving
Must demonstrate effective organizational, time management and prioritization skills in order to consistently meet deadlines and performance standards
Takes ownership of monitoring, researching, and resolving all exception items in assigned projects in accordance with guidelines
Understands the risks within the assigned processes and recognizes the potential negative ramifications as they occur
Manages multiple, current projects with extremely tight deadlines, reporting to different project team leaders
Decision Making Authority
Work requires analytical and policy interpretation, independent problem solving and resolution
Works independently to resolve highly sensitive complex problems and issues integrating knowledge of auditing principles, differing functions, processes, and systems and SDLC (systems development life cycle); occasionally escalating more difficult problems to leader
Analyzes and evaluates the criticality of risk issues and making decisions as to the appropriate level of escalation
Responsible to project leaders, and to matrixed relationships for work performed cross-functionally
Demonstrates leadership in enhancing operational efficiency, in alignment with the Company's commitment to quality assurance and continuous improvement methodology
Leadership Responsibilities
Contributes to teamwork on multiple concuurent project teams
Communicates assertively and effectively with internal and external interfaces
Participates in cross-functional workgroups and project teams
Four plus years of audit-related professional experience.
Bachelor's degree in business discipline or Associates degree with equivalent experience
Professional certification a plus
Insurance and/or healthcare background a plus
