Job Description:

POSITION PURPOSE - Assistant Store Managers are responsible for the complete operation of designated areas. They work with the Store Manager, Department Heads, Associates, Installers, and Vendors to drive sales, ensure high levels of customer service, and solve complex problems. Assistant Store Managers act as role models of professionalism, ethical behavior, and effective decision making at all times.

MAJOR TASKS, RESPONSIBILITIES AND KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES –
CUSTOMER SERVICE Greeting customers when they enter the store Ensuring customer concerns are solved effectively and promptly. Training Associates to provide quality customer service.
SUPERVISION Delegating tasks and following-up to ensure task completion. Observing and providing feedback on Associate performance. Motivating Associates to perform at a high level. Promoting and encouraging Associate development.
MANAGING THE BUSINESS Maintaining department profitability through research, report analysis, identifying trends, defining problems and developing appropriate responses.
REPORTS Completing reports accurately and on time. Using reports to make decisions and drive sales.
PLANNING Working with Associates, peers, and Store Manager to anticipate problems and plan for upcoming events. Setting objectives and ensuring they are met. Using established procedures to hire Associates, Installers, and others.
WORKING RELATIONSHIPS Training and developing associates through formal training programs, providing both informal (e.g., on-floor coaching) and formal (e.g., written evaluation) job performance-based feedback, delegating and follow-up (i.e., operational control). Communicating and working with all operational areas within The Home Depot.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT Attending Product Knowledge training. Shopping and studying competition to identify trends and develop new ideas. Other related duties as assigned by the supervisor. Nature and Scope - Reports directly to Store Manager.
ENVIRONMENTAL JOB REQUIREMENTS - Interior floors near entrances and exits may become slippery during wet weather conditions. An Assistant Store Manager may have to handle merchandise. Due to forklifts and other heavy equipment traveling through the receiving area, temporary cracks may appear in the floor, causing an uneven walking surface. The receiving area can be dusty and noisy.
PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS - Most all of the time is spent sitting in the same position or standing/walking or there is some requirement to lift or handle material or equipment of moderate weight (8-20 pounds).


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS -
Must be eighteen years of age or older.
Must pass the Drug Test.
Must pass the Background Check.
Must pass pre-employment tests if applicable.
Ability to work a flexible, 55 hours per week schedule.
EDUCATION REQUIRED - The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a high school diplomas and/or GED.
