Environmental Technician

Republic Services, a solid waste management company, currently has an opening for an Environmental Technician. This position will be located in Richmond, CA, and will have the following responsibilities:

 

§ Performs a variety of tasks related to Environmental Monitoring and Compliance including but not limited to:  inspecting the landfill and environmental control systems; sampling various media for laboratory analysis; performing environmental monitoring using field instruments; providing quality assurance and quality control on various site operations; performing compliance evaluations and training;

§ Should be familiar with environmental regulations in the areas of air quality, water quality, solid waste, and hazardous/waste or must be able to effectively interpret and apply regulatory requirements to operations of a landfill;

§ Inspect and collect data on leachate and gas collection systems, writing reports for distribution to management and engineering staff;

§ Perform observations of storm water and non-storm water discharges from the site, sampling water when required or requested, and tracking records and data;

§ Provide oversight of compost operations and load checking program to ensure compliance with regulations;

§ Evaluate systems and operations on the landfill for compliance with regulations,

§ Provide training to new hires on environmental regulations and procedures for compliance.

 

Optional Responsibilities:

§ Perform all monitoring and adjustments on landfill gas collection systems to maintain compliance with regulations, writing reports when necessary and maintaining proper records and documents on site;

§ Perform regular physical and emissions inspections on landfill gas and leachate collection system.

§ Perform regular calibration and maintenance on all landfill test equipment.

§ Perform regularly scheduled maintenance on leachate extraction system including pumps, flow meters and plant equipment.

§AA, AS or BS in Physical, Environmental Science or related area.

§ 2 years experience working in a regulatory environment (regulatory agency or consulting firm) with oversight in solid waste or working for a landfill or other solid waste facility preferred.

§ HAZ MAT Certification preferredWaste or Transportation industry experience preferredExperience repairing and maintaining pumps, plastic piping, and pneumatic systems.Experience calibrating and operating test equipment.  Strong P.C. skills (Microsoft windows environment)

 

The physical environment demands sufficient agility to walk over uneven surfaces, climb moderate slopes and work outside in all types of weather.
