Job Summary:

Reliability Engineering within Southern Company Generation utilizes a unique and diverse set of tools to provide products and services that deal with obtaining cost-effective plant reliability. Reliability Engineering focuses on reliability analysis and benchmarking of plant performance data. This position provides leadership, overall technical direction, and supervision of a broad array of reliability services related to power plant performance of all fossil and nuclear generating facilities within Southern Company.

Job Responsibilities:

Provide short and long-term strategic direction for the Reliability function

Provide overall direction for reliability related technical services

Provide leadership and direct supervision, technical development, discipline, performance appraisals/evaluations for employees.

Interface with partners to ensure that all services are planned, budgeted, and completed to meet both technical and budget requirements. .

Ensure that reliability results are analyzed and effectively documented for customer use.

Education & Work Experience:

Bachelor's degree in Engineering required.

Professional engineering registration is a plus.

Applicable experience in Benchmarking, Modeling and Performance Reporting

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Knowledge of NERC/GADs reporting and experience in interpretation of NERC/GADS guidance

Working knowledge of coal and gas-fired generating plant theory, major power plant equipment and systems, and performance.

Thorough understanding of the electric utility industry performance - market, competition and regulation.

Demonstrated ability to develop, train, and lead a diverse workforce

Customer service skills to build effective partnerships with clients.

Demonstrated skills in Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Access.

Ability to organize and to effectively communicate reliability results to a broad audience.

Represent Southern Company Generation on a variety of industry committees and participate in utility groups (EUCG, GKS, etc.)

Moderate travel and overnight stay is required.
