Position Description:
Chevron Global Refining is accepting online applications for the position of Process Engineer located in Los Angeles, CA (El Segundo, CA) through June 30, 2007**.

POSITION DESCRIPTION &ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS:
1. Provides engineering support for routine daily and long term monitoring, process design, and economic benefit analysis for process units within the refinery. Support requires collaboration and interpersonal skills necessary to work with operations, maintenance, and technical functions within the global refining system
2. Key job responsibilities include answering technical inquiries, making technical recommendations, providing process troubleshooting, improving process engineering tools, and developing process procedures.
3. Carries out various studies to improve plant safety, reliability and economics.
4. Conducts test runs to optimize process variables and evaluate plant performance.
5. Provides technical recommendations and engineering support during planned unit turnarounds.
6. Provides front end engineering for minor and major capital projects.
Qualifications:

SPECIAL SKILLS/REQUIREMENTS OR ADDITIONAL CONSIDERATIONS/INFORMATION:
- Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering required.
- This is a Safety Sensitive position, subject to random drug testing.

- Must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident
- 3 to 6 year experience in refining or petrochemicals is desirable.

SELECTION CRITERIA:
- A general understanding of refinery or hydrocarbon processing and equipment is desirable. Must be able to understand and use appropriate process engineering tools. Knowledge of simulation software is desired as well as a good working knowledge of the standard desktop applications especially Excel.
- Self-motivated with the ability to originate and adapt to new ideas. Able to work without supervision. Ability to step up and take ownership of specific team efforts. Able to proactively champion technical issues and see them through to completion.
- Able to plan and organize projects from inception to start up. Able to handle multiple activities simultaneously. Must be flexible to respond to Refinery support needs as priorities change with specific business needs. Able to balance day to day support issues with longer term offline projects/studies.
- Good written and oral communication skills. Strong ability to work well with other Refinery groups in cross-functional teams. Able to communicate technical ideas to a wide range of groups within the refinery. Ability to help teach/mentor others.
- Effectively interface with Operators,
Mechanics, Supervisors, and Management to complete projects and tasks on time and on budget to meets the business objectives. Ability to seek out customer's needs and prioritize own work accordingly.
