Position Description:
Chevron Services Company (CSVS) is accepting online applications for the position of a Accounting Analyst (0609-50047709) located in Concord and/or San Ramon, California through October 23, 2006.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
Chevron Finance Shared Services (FSS), located in Concord, California, is currently hiring for ENTRY LEVEL positions (0 – 3 years of experience) in four of our primary organizations – Excise Tax, Manufacturing & Supply, Payroll, and Upstream Accounting. The FSS supports the full range of Chevron’s financial activities including regulatory and excise tax compliance, accounting for the production, disposition and sales of crude oil and natural gas products, cost accounting for refineries and chemical plants, and payroll for Chevron’s US employees. More detailed descriptions for each of the hiring organizations are listed below.
Excise Tax:
The Excise Tax department complies with excise tax laws in all 50 states and numerous local jurisdictions. The primary responsibilities of the group are the accurate and timely preparation and filing of monthly, quarterly and annual state Excise Tax returns (Sales and Use tax, Motor Vehicle Fuel Tax, Environmental Tax, Business Licenses, and other general taxes), calculating and paying tax liability correctly and timely, maintaining accurate customer account taxability status, researching and interpreting tax regulation and resource literature, and reconciliation of tax liability accounts. The department pays approximately $2 billion in State Excise Taxes annually. Overtime may be required to meet tax reporting deadlines.
Manufacturing & Supply:
The Manufacturing & Supply Accounting group has responsibility for monitoring and controlling Chevron Light Product inventories, resolving customer billing inquiries, and interpreting contracts and other source documents needed to invoice customers and pay suppliers. Analysts are expected to perform inventory reconciliations, research and resolve excessive product losses or gains and communicate with internal & external customers to resolve problems.
Analysts are cross trained to perform multiple functions within the depts. and serve as back up for other Team members during vacations etc.
Excellent communication skills, the ability to multi-task and to work effectively with all levels of personnel are key job requirements. This is a fast-paced working environment that interfaces with Supply & Trading, Refinery and Marketing Operations on a daily basis.
Payroll:
The Payroll Accounting Group has responsibility for all back end processes related to payroll processing including, federal, state and local payroll tax payments and associated general ledger reconciliations, payroll distributions to operating companies, ESIP (Employee Stock Investment Plan) funding, review of internal and SOX controls, etc.
Analysts are crossed trained to perform all payroll accounting functions. This is a fast-paced working environment with strict deadlines. The Payroll Accounting Analyst's primary responsibilities are to ensure the timely and accurate analysis and reconciliation of assigned accounts as well as provide subject matter expertise to customers on payroll distribution and payroll tax questions. Excellent communication skills, the ability to multi-task and to work effectively with all levels of personnel are also key job requirements. The position deals with highly sensitive employee information and therefore requires strict adherence to the companies Information Protection Policy (Policy 575).
Upstream Accounting:
The Upstream Accounting department provides accounting and analytical support services to the Chevron North America Exploration & Production (CNAEP) business units, primarily utilizing the SAP environment. The Property Accounting team is responsible for accounting for CNAEP’s asset base (over $35 billion) and annual capital expenditures ($2.5 billion in 2005). There are four primary groups within the upstream organization – Cost Allocations, Joint Interest, Property, and Upstream General.
The Cost Allocations team is responsible for allocating over $1.5 billion of annual CNAEP labor, aviation, motor vehicle, marine vessel, field and facility operating expenses. The Joint Interest Accounting team is responsible for billing and collecting over $650 million per year from CNAEP’s 1,800 joint venture partners. Property Accounting monitors capital and expense projects, and record transfers and sales of materials and equipment. The Upstream General group performs key internal control processes and analytical support for management reports. All jobs in Upstream Accounting utilize the SAP accounting system, as well as various Microsoft Office & Windows applications. Prior experience in SAP is not required.
Qualifications:

SPECIAL SKILLS/REQUIREMENTS OR ADDITIONAL CONSIDERATIONS/INFORMATION:
- Bachelor’s degree required in Accounting or Finance (minimum of 4 accounting classes).
