Power Supply Engineering Director

SUMMARY
Responsible for developing and directing the Power Supply Product Development Engineering function, which includes the creation, design, development and revision of new and existing families of power supply products. Will work closely with Value Added Engineering . Formulates long term objectives and oversees engineering budget and development schedule. Will also provide direction for product introduction including processes into the manufacturing sites. Directs, coordinates, and exercises functional authority for planning, organization, control, integration, and completion of engineering project(s) within area of assigned responsibility by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Plans and formulates engineering programs to meet the Division’s business plan objectives by organizing project staff according to project requirements.

Works with Marketing and Sales to determine market specifications and industry needs that will result in the best engineering solution.

Assigns project personnel to specific phases or aspects of project such as technical studies, product design, preparation of specifications and technical plans, and product testing.

Must establish design controls that will insure product reliability working with multiple manufacturing sites and suppliers.

Reviews product design for compliance with engineering principles, company standards, and customer contract requirements, and related specifications.

Coordinates activities concerned with technical developments, scheduling, and resolving engineering design and test problems.

Directs integration of technical activities and products.

Will also select and evaluate engineering tools (S/W simulation, CAD/CAM, etc) and provide leadership in engineering support functions such as documentation control. Evaluates and approves design changes, specifications, and drawing releases.

Controls expenditures within limitations of project budget and be able to manage capital planning and justification.

Prepares interim and completion project reports.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Advanced degree in electrical engineering or the sciences (MSEE) with a minimum of ten years supervisory experience in the power supply industry. Must have competency in power supply topologies and analog design circuitry. Must have had prior experience in complete design cycle and introduction into manufacturing production. This requires experience in lean design methodologies and experience in design for manufacturing. (DFM). The ability to conduct risk assessment and define critical path planning is essential to establishing and maintaining appropriate controls for product development. ISO compliance and safety agency approval experience. Computer literate
