Counselor - one year temporary
DESCRIPTION: The counselor is a non-teaching faculty position responsible for providing short-term personal/mental health counseling, crisis intervention, and education/outreach activities to a diverse student population. Counselors also provide consultation to faculty and staff in their efforts to help students succeed. This position is part of the Counseling unit and collaborates closely with other Student Development and Retention programs including Health Education and Wellness Prevention, Student Programs, Athletics, Multicultural Services, Women’s Programs, Disability Support Services, as well as TRIO. As non-teaching faculty, counselors are responsible for faculty obligations including active participation in the Humanities Division, committee work, and advising duties.
General requirements : Master’s degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work or related field.
Demonstrated commitment to multiculturalism and diversity and experience working with under-represented populations.
Licensed or License eligible for Washington State Licensed Mental Health Counselor status.
Supervised graduate school internship and three years professional work experience as a mental health counselor.
Experience using short term therapeutic techniques.
Experience in program planning and evaluation.
Strong written and verbal communication skills including public speaking.
Proven track record of strong time management and personal organization skills with demonstrated ability to complete projects in a timely fashion.
Demonstrated success in working collaboratively and cooperatively with faculty, Students Services areas, and entire campus community.
