Materials Manager

POSITION TITLE: Materials Manager

DEPARTMENT: Sourcing

REPORTS TO:  Sr. VP of Sourcing

 

 

 

JOB SUMMARY:

 

This individual will be responsible for managing Stride Rite's global raw material and component activities to achieve overall business goals.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Work cross-functionally with divisions to achieve common business goals and objectives. 

 

Coordinate activities with overseas functional teams to maximize efficiency and minimize costs.

 

Maintain productive working relationships with all material suppliers.

 

Establish overall materials strategy to meet cost, lead time and quality requirements.

 

Work closely with Costing team to achieve material cost savings.

 

Research and nominate appropriate suppliers

 

Negotiate global contracts with material suppliers to meet business objectives.

 

Assist overseas staff when required to remedy material issues with suppliers.

 

Establish quality standards for all materials.

 

 

REQUIREMENTS:

 

A degree in Business, Materials Science or Engineering required.  10+ years of experience in the footwear industry.  Candidate should have working knowledge of most raw materials commonly used in footwear.  Strong leather background and Asia work experience.  Must have excellent verbal and written English skills as well as strong computer skills including Word and Excel.  Must be able to work effectively as part of a team.
