POSITION SUMMARY:
~ Coordinates and oversees safety activities at the facility. Coordinates and oversees prevention and environmental control activities at the facility. Acts as E&S technical resource for the facility.
~ Develops, implements, coordinates and maintains plant policies, programs, plans and training to drive and achieve E&S performance excellence and to meet or exceed both Nestlé E&S objectives and mandates and local, state, and federal regulations.
~ Is E&S contact and consultant to employees and departments within the plant and is contact for related environmental and/or safety services or regulatory agencies outside the plant.
~ Organizes and coordinates the efforts of Environmental and Safety committees and related functional teams (i.e. - Ergonomics Team, NEMS team, etc). Has role in ensuring proper operation of fire alarm, emergency notification, fire prevention, fire suppression, and related safety systems. Organizes and coordinates follow-up for E&S inspections/audits of buildings, equipment, operations and compliance. Oversees and coordinates follow-up on industrial hygiene inspections and testing for related utilities and equipment.
~ Provides counsel overall and project management as needed for safety and environmental projects and the E&S components of capital projects.
~ Responsible for the coordination and supervision of all E&S training activities of all employees and to assist in developing training programs through research and needs analysis.
~ Coordinates and helps lead investigation of accidents and injuries, with recommendation of appropriate action and assurance of follow-up/delivery. Maintains accident and training records, prepares appropriate reports and updates regulatory logs. Helps direct facilitation of the worker's compensation process.
~ Analyzes environmental conditions and recommends changes to reduce or eliminate the use of harmful effects of facility functions on the environment as well as ways to design in prevention.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strategic Leadership/Partnership, Change Management, Performance Driver/Coach:
~ E&S functional expert and change agent to drive injury free culture, environmental excellence and continuous performance improvement.
~ Integrate and drive functional efforts to achieve and maintain third party E&S certification.
~ Collaborate with other facility functions (purchasing, engineering, maintenance, quality assurance, etc.) to ensure new products, capital projects and functional activities are aligned with facility E&S objectives and injury prevention.
~ Administer training programs for safety accident prevention and protection, and environmental management.
Technical/Operational Management:
~ Coordinate and oversees E&S performance, prevention and directs activities at the facility.
~ Technical resource and team leader for E&S activities at the facility.
~ Develop and implement processes and procedures to ensure facility, associate and contractor compliance with company and regulatory agency safety and environmental policies, including related federal, state and local legislation and regulations.
~ Actively participate on corporate/divisional E&S teams.
MINIMUM EDUCATION LEVEL AND EXPERIENCE:
~ Bachelor's degree in environmental and or safety discipline.
~ 3-5 years experience in coordinating safety/loss control/risk management/environmental/occupational health activities and compliance/record keeping in manufacturing setting.
~ Past experience in manufacturing industry with responsibility for E&S, loss control, risk management.
~ Experience with E&S programs including: hazardous and non-hazardous waste, wastewater, air permitting, chemical management, natural resource management, energy control, confined space entry, hazard communication, respiratory protection, hearing conservation, and forklift safety, and coordination of contractor safety management with engineering and other functional groups.
~ Demonstrated ability to interact with federal, state and local regulatory agencies.
SKILLS:
~ Ability to build teams throughout all levels and functions of the facility.
~ Decision-making; must be capable of making well-informed decisions in both routine and emergency situations.
~ Excellent written and oral communication skills are required. Must have good interpersonal skills and be able to communicate with audiences that have a broad range of background and understanding.
~ Training & presentation skills.
~ Must be able to conduct accident investigations and analyze data.
~ Able to work and lead in a team environment; live the Nestle Leadership Principles and bring it to life for others.
~ Ability to organize and prioritize.
~ Working knowledge of federal and state plan OSHA requirements EPA, IDEM, DOT and alignment of goals as it relates injury and workers compensation management with safety and human resource functions.
~ Technical writing skills (policies, procedures, reference manuals, and training materials) and coordination with technical training.
~ Work with local, corporate leadership and human resources to ensure that E&S principles are part of plant culture and the accountability for E&S is reinforced in all PDGs and individual job expectation.
~ Lead and coach the facility in implementing team empowerment and individual ownership of E&S, by area, for all associates, driving decision making to the point of execution.
~ Computer skills (Microsoft/Windows based).
~ Reading and comprehension skills/legal & regulatory interpretation.
~ Initiative to lead continuous improvement efforts.
