Director of Product Development

Our client is a fast-growth consumer products company that specializes in the arts, crafts and scrapbooking industries.  Their products are sold to various retail specialty chains, mass merchandise, independent stores, wholesalers and distributors that specialize in these areas.

We are seeking a Director of Product Development that will play a vital role in managing the Product Development team.  This position reports to the Senior Vice President of Product Development of the company.

 

Key responsibilities for this position include:

 

--Manage and coordinate all product development within the specified categories of this position.

--Assess and allocate the resources required to deliver products to the market based upon the priorities set by senior management.

--Interact on a regular basis with other departments within the organization to provide information on current development along with receiving direction from others on future development needs.

--Manage and coordinate Product Managers and the development of their projects.

--Clearly understand and enforce product development processes and procedures.

--Identify market trends that are appropriate to the core business and share information with the product and creative teams for applicable development opportunities.

--Review all projects to ensure that products in development meet customer's needs and profitability requirements.

--Interact and communicate with other teams within the organization to share information on the projects that are currently in process within product development. 

--Must be able to assess timelines for completion and scope of products currently in development.

 

Qualifications and core competencies for this position include:

 

--A minimum of five plus years in a product development managerial role with a consumer products company, preferably within the craft and scrapbooking industry.

--Must possess strong leadership skills.  Must have the ability to motivate and communicate with all levels of the organization.

--Must have the ability to multi-task and be able to prioritize and schedule projects.

--Have the ability to train and enforce processes and procedures.

--Strong team player with an open and receptive demeanor.

--Highly detail oriented and thrives on a multi-project environment.

--Strong verbal and written communication skills.

--Must have strong financial understanding with excellent mathematical and analytical skills.
