Software Engineer

The Routing and IP infrastructure team is seeking a software engineer to work in the Software Design group. This growing team is building common software for new platforms. This team will leverage like functionality and hardware commonality from other products where possible to achieve challenging time to market objectives.

Primary Responsibilities / Position Purpose:

The successful candidate will have an opportunity to be responsible for software development on protocols such as MPLS, OSPF, BGP, IS-IS, RIP, PIM, IGMP, IPv6 protocols and IP infrastructure.

This individual will join a talented engineering team tasked with developing key software functionality for Nortel Products. The individual will have an opportunity to work independently and expand capabilities.

The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, developing and maintaining solutions/features, then testing and debugging that work on a real-time embedded system requiring external test equipment.

Qualifications / Experience Required:

BS in Computer Systems Engineering, Computer Science or related discipline

3+ years of C++ experience or 2 years of C experience and 2 years of C++ experience.

experience writing code on Linux or Unix.

Real time embedded software development (e.g. knowledge of message passing, interrupt handling, and managing semiphores/locks)

Strong knowledge of OSI networking layers, specifically layer 3 (e.g. OSPF, BGP, RIP, IS-IS)

An understanding of MPLS and RFC 2547.

Strong problem solving skills – Detect and Define Problem, Analyze Results, Determine Possible Solutions and Find Resolution

Exposure to tools such as protocol analyzers and Routing Protocols test equipment (e.g. SmartBits, IXIA, Adtech)

Proficient in C and C++

Strong verbal and written communication skills

Able to work in high paced, ever changing environment

Highly motivated self-starter with an ability to meet strict project time lines

Highly reliable, flexible, and a team player
