Clinical Pharmacist

General Summary Develops clinical and operational policies, procedures, protocols, educational programs, and numerous initiatives that improve the quality and/or cost-effectiveness of drug therapy covered by Company benefit plans. Supports formulary management and provides member services support. Serves a liaison for communications between clinical operations personnel and other corporate departments. Position will focus on daily drug therapy decision making for Company  pharmacy plans.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Provides daily coverage for clinical consultation, providing drug information and drug therapy decision-making support to the pharmacy specialists, nursing staff and other departments as needed.
Provides clinical services including formulary management and design, clinical adjudication recommendations, establishing prior authorization criteria, and performing drug utilization reviews.
Ongoing collaboration with pharmacy, medical staff and other internal departments, providing clinical expertise to improve the scope and quality of services provided.
Assists with oversight and performance management of the Pharmacy Benefit Manager to ensure compliance with contract requirements.
Provides clinical support for member and provider communications.
Reviews and develops clinical content of education materials for patient, pharmacist, and physician health management programs, and develops formulary monographs.
Assists with the analysis of drug utilization data to identify prescribing trends and develop pharmacy strategies.

For Supervision:      Staff development or team building. Conducts counseling 

  and coaching with pharmacy specialists. Works with

  minimal supervision, but under the general direction of the

  Director of Clinical Pharmacy.

 

For Internal and External Relationships:

 

Liaison for communications between clinical pharmacy operations and other corporate departments. Provides consultation to other branch personnel as appropriate.

Collaborates with senior management on critical pharmacy issues as required. Interaction with physicians, nurses, members, and sales representatives.

 

For Organization Influence: Limited to pharmacy clinical operations and administrative practices

Limits of Authority: Works under the general direction of the Director of Clinical Pharmacy

 

Experience Guidelines, Business and Professional Competencies
Strong underlying clinical background. Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy required. Pharm.D. preferred. Clinical Residency/Advanced degree(s) a plus.
One year or more of pharmacy experience, preferably in a managed care environment
Current professional licensure as Registered Pharmacist in state of practice
High professional ethics and standards
Ability to analyze data and research information
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Ability to conduct meetings and make presentations to internal and external clients
Strong problem solving and organizational skills, with ability to balance multiple tasks
Strong customer service, interpersonal and negotiation skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications-Word, Excel, Outlook
