Forest Technician/Forester

BASIC ACCOUNTABILITIES :   Performs the field administration of timber sales activities, including field oversight of harvesting operations, within a designated portion of MeadWestvaco’s Rupert Area Forest.  Responsibilities include development and execution of the annual Business Plan to meet safety, sustainability, environmental, revenue, and fiber flow targets.

 

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



 

●  Works in a team environment to execute the Timber Sale Plan to meet timber revenue, production, and mill fiber flow targets

 

●  Accomplishes all aspects of timber sales administration including harvest planning, sale layout, sale inspections, timber security, site safety, and contract compliance

 

●  Monitors costs and goals progress relative to the annual budget

 

●  Maintains MeadWestvaco’s high environmental performance standards, complying with the Sustainable Forestry Initiative and West Virginia’s Forestry Best Management Practices

 

●  Establishes and maintains a productive working relationship with co- workers, the forestry community, contractors, governmental agencies, and the general public; investigates and responds to concerns and complaints as they occur

 

●  Provides general Area support as needed, including road maintenance reporting, silvicultural activities, documentation, and local public relations activities as assigned

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

 

● Associate degree in Forestry or related field and five (5) years of timber sales or land management experience or baccalaureate degree and three (3) years of experience

 

●  Ability to identify hardwood species

 

●  Ability to work as an effective team member

 

●  Proven oral and written communication skills

 

●  Ability to identify, track and manage multiple priorities

 

●  Basic computer competence with spreadsheets and reporting

 

●  Physical ability to work in the field or woods in all seasons

 

 

TRAVEL:



 

Leased company vehicle is provided; occasional overnight travel should be expected
