Fiber Supply Forester

This position is responsible for purchasing pulpwood from loggers and landowners from a five-county area surrounding the MeadWestvaco wood yard located near Monterey, Virginia.

Experience: Two years of experience with expertise in timber cruising, GPS, road layout, harvest planning, and contractor management.

Education: Bachelor of Science degree or Associates degree in Forestry.

Travel:  Extensive local, non-overnight travel.

Responsibilities:
• Purchase 45,000 tons of pulpwood for the Highland wood yard, primarily from open market suppliers. Relatively little wood is purchased on the stump. In addition, manage wood flow going directly to the Covington Wood Yard from the procurement area.
• Manage wood flow, contracts, and rates for suppliers in a five-county area reaching from Highland north. Contact with suppliers occurs both during the day and in the evenings at home.
• Assist landowners with timber harvesting projects as appropriate.
• Review stumpage purchase opportunities and contract to harvest those tracts if purchased.
• Work with procurement and CFM colleagues and supervisor to coordinate wood flow and purchases.  Participate in and coordinate group cruising and marking projects.
• Insure that suppliers meet Sustainable Forestry Initiative training requirements. Maintain a good working relationship with government agency personnel, particularly the Virginia Department of Forestry and West Virginia Division of Forestry.
