Agronomist

Agronomist Description: Agronomist needed for one of the largest farming organizations in the nation. This person has the ability to move into a higher level district management position, depending upon open positions, seniority and years of experience.

Summary: Responsible for monitoring insect pressures, plant and soil development, and making appropriate recommendations to handle and oversee applications, and take corrective actions. Conducts experiments or investigations in field crops to develop new methods of growing crops to secure more efficient production, higher yield, and improved quality by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Plans, reports, and carries out varietal evaluations to develop and improve field crops such as cotton, safflower, seed alfalfa, wheat, and various vegetable crops.

Evaluates and reports on crop production techniques to discover methods of planting, cultivation, harvesting, to improve yields and quality.

Evaluates and reports on ways to improve soil and water characteristics to improve yield and quality.

Supervises vendors and applicators as directed by the District Manager.

Develops methods for control of weeds, crop diseases, and insect pests.

Assists in the Implementation of district safety program.

Maintains district farm records.

Reports to work in a timely fashion, ready, willing and able to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of his job.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervises 1-4 field checkers, and assists in supervision of other district personnel if asked to do so by the District Manager.

This is a direct hire position. The salary is DOE, $40K-60K + full family health, dental and vision medical coverage, retirement, etc.




Requirements:
BA or BS degree in Ag Sciences, Biological Sciences or Pest Management.

Posses or able to obtain PCA (Pest Control Advisor) and Pest Control Operator licenses. Must have valid CA drivers license.

Effective language, mathematical and reasoning abilities.
